The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is in the books. The Midsummer Classic produced a historic finish this year as, for the first time in history, a swing-off was required to decide the winner. After the National League emerged victorious, Justin Turner dropped a hilarious 7-word reaction regarding this.
In the game at Truist Park in Atlanta, the National League team started strong and took a 2-0 first-inning lead. They would then extend that lead to 6-0 through a 3-run home run from Pete Alonso and a solo home run from Corbin Carroll in the 6th inning.
The American League would kick-start the comeback in the 7th inning. A three-run bomb from Athletics’ Brent Rooker would cut the deficit in half. A groundout RBI from Bobby Witt Jr. in this inning would make it a 6-4 game.
The comeback would get completed in the 9th inning. After Witt Jr. drove in another run while hitting the ball down the right field line, Cleveland Guardians’ star Steven Kwan would hit an infield single. With the scores remaining tied at 6-6 after 9 innings, a swing-off was needed to crown the 2025 All-Star Game.
In a swing-off, each team got 3 hitters, who had 3 swings. The American League side would take a 3-1 lead in this.
Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber would then steal the show. The designated hitter (DH) would smash 3 home runs in his 3 swings and give his team a 4-3 lead. Tampa Bay Rays star Jonathan Aranda was unable to hit any home run in his 3 swings, which ended the game and gave the National League a historic win.

2-time MLB All-Star Justin Turner would make a hilarious comment as a swing-off was required. His wife, Kourtney Turner, would reshare a screenshot of an article of him from 2020 claiming that games should have a home run derby to decide the winner after 10 innings instead of extra innings.
The Chicago Cubs star would repost this tweet from his wife and drop a hilarious 7-word reaction.

Fans on social media would join in on the fun under Turner’s post. Some users jokingly suggested that he should be the next commissioner of MLB.
Aaron Boone comments on losing All-Star Game on swing-off
Aaron Boone and the American League All-Stars ended up on the wrong side of history on Tuesday. They became the first team to lose the All-Star Game via the swing-off method.

Boone, the New York Yankees manager, has faced a lot of criticism this season. Following a major skid of the Yankees before the All-Star break, many urged for his removal and a change in leadership.
He found himself under fire once again after the game. Several users on social media would question his decisions and his selection of the hitters in the swing-off.
After losing the game through the swing-off method, the Yankees manager made some light-hearted comments and claimed it was actually “pretty exciting” to be part of it.
It’s like whiffle ball in the back yard. Let’s go. Pretty exciting.

The American League team did make a historic comeback in the game. No team had previously come back from a 6-0 deficit in the All-Star game before. Despite their gritty comeback, the AL team had to settle with a loss, just their third in the last 13 All-Star Games.
Phillies Kyle Schwarber gets named 2025 All-Star MVP
Kyle Schwarber got his name trending on social media following a historic performance in the swing-off. The Philadelphia Phillies star would hit 3 home runs on his 3 swings, which proved to be decisive. He was later named the MVP of the 2025 All-Star Game.

The Phillies’ star eventually went 0-for-2 in the game. However, he kept his cool in the swing-off and connected 3 huge bombs to give his team a 4-3 lead. The American League was unable to answer back as Jonathan Aranda went 0-for-3 in his 3 swings.

Schwarber thus became the first position player to go hitless in the All-Star Game and still earn the Most Valuable Player Award.

The Phillies’ designated hitter (DH) has been in fine form this season. In the 96 games he has played this year, he has smashed 30 home runs while providing 69 RBI at a batting average of .247. His team is currently 0.5 games ahead of the New York Mets in the NL East Standings and would be hoping for his fine form to continue in the 2nd half of the season.
