The New York Mets have tumbled again. On Thursday, they lost 9-3 against their National League East division rivals, the Washington Nationals and lost the 3-game series. After the loss, the Nationals would take a brutal dig at their opponents, which send the MLB fanbase into frenzy on social media.

After a solid start to the season, the Mets have suffered a massive slump in form. They recently went on a 7-game losing run, which included them getting swept by the Cleveland Guardians and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Despite winning the series opener against the Atlanta Braves, they ended up dropping that series as well. However, the Mets did win the series against the Seattle Mariners, which included the Little League game on Sunday.

Following their series win against the Mariners, the Mets took on the Nationals, who are bottom of the NL East division. Just like the series against the Braves, the Mets won the opener only to lose the next two games and suffer another series defeat.

The Mets started strong on Thursday and found themselves 3-0 up. The Nationals eventually found their way back. The highlight moment for them was James Wood‘s 26th home run of the year. A 3-run home run off Ryne Stanek in the 8th inning sealed a 9-3 win for the Nationals.

After the game, the Nationals took to their X account to poke some fun at their opponents. They would drop an 11-word message to brutally troll their division rivals for losing the series against them.

This is not the first time the Nationals have taken some wild shot at an opposition following a win. Earlier this year, they would call out the MLB for biased treatment towards the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Washington Nationals got the better of the New York Mets on Thursday. The 2019 World Series winners came back from 0-3 down to win the game with a 9-3 score. Following their series victory, they took a swipe at the Mets.

The tweet from the Nationals would soon catch the attention of MLB fans. Several of them quickly jump in to make fun of the Mets. One user savagely wrote, “Cooked them frauds” while taking a shot at the New York-based side.

The Mets are now 67-60 for the season (5-13 in August) and 7 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. Their lead for the final wild card place has also been cut down to 0.5 games after this defeat in Washington.

Despite midseason slump, Juan Soto expresses confidence in NY Mets being a playoff team

Just when things were starting to look a little better for the New York Mets with the series win against the Seattle Mariners, they suffered another setback. The series loss against the Washington Nationals leaves them just 0.5 games ahead in the last wild card position. Despite this, Juan Soto expressed confidence regarding his team and claimed that they are a playoff team.

Soto had a day to forget against his former team, with whom he won the World Series in 2019. The Dominican international went 0-for-5 with 3 strikeouts on Thursday. Overall in the series, Soto had just 1 hit in 12 plate appearances.

100%. Since day one, we believe in each other and we think we can make it to the playoffs.

Juan Soto said when asked whether Mets were a playoff team or not

The 4-time MLB All-Star also claimed that the slump of the team was neither late nor early in the season.

I mean, it ain’t late but it ain’t early, either. We have to win today. We don’t have to be focused on what is gonna happen in the future, or what happened in the past. We gotta focus on what we can do today.

Juan Soto told the reporters

The Mets will turn their attention to another one of their division rivals, the Atlanta Braves next. With just 5 weeks remaining of the 2025 regular season, the pressure has seemingly started to mount on the shoulders of Soto and his Mets teammates.
