Virat Kohli scored a match-winning 70* against Gujarat Titans (GT) on 28th April. His fifty saw him attack GT’s spinners and play at a high strike rate. Kohli then called out his critics, who he claimed spoke for his slow strike rate while never being in the situation.
Virat Kohli’s fiery interview gained loads of attention, with divided opinions. Many slammed him, claiming Kohli couldn’t take criticism, while many supported him. He found support from former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu, who claimed people think Kohli is God.
People think Kohli is God. He is a human, so will play like a human too. Rather than nitpick, why don’t we look at the fact that the guy has 80 centuries. That's his strength and weakness, he has none.Navjot Singh Sidhu on Star Sports
Sidhu added that he was impressed at how well Kohli tackled spin that day. He praised Kohli’s lofted drive against Sai Kishore for a six. Sidhu further claimed not many batters had the ability to bat like Kohli.
Irfan Pathan hails “slow” Virat Kohli
Irfan Pathan was shocked when people questioned Virat Kohli’s batting style and his slow strike rate. He believed Kohli’s strike rate didn’t matter as he bats according to the situation and to win his team the match.
And I don't understand where all the talks of strike-rate comes in. It actually disappoints me.Irfan Pathan on Star Sports
Pathan called Kohli a big game player and dissected his innings against GT. The former all-rounder pointed out how Kohli began his inning slowly, scoring 14 off 14 by the 5th over. In the next 30 balls he proceeded to score 56 runs. He showed off his range of shots, like slog sweeps and lofted drives.
