“All these motherf***s crazy!! Life is bigger than some damn sports” Damian Lillard thrashes Gil Brandt for bizarre comments on Dwayne Haskins

Damian Lillard along with billions of people around the world was mourning the death of 24-year-old Dwayne Haskins, who was a quarterback in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dwayne died after being hit by a dump-truck on a highway in Fort Lauderdale, a city in Florida. The death of the 24-year-old player sparked a series of questions regarding the circumstances around his death as to why the player was out on an interstate highway, with initial reports suggesting that his car broke down, upon which he was out to check it and was hit by a dump truck, which resulted in his instant death.

While the world was busy mourning the death of a young, talented soul who didn’t even live his life yet properly, former Cowboys executive who won a Superbowl with the team who is also an NFL Hall of Famer, Gil Brandt, was busy dehumanizing Haskins after his death. Brandt on NFL Radio made such comments that they were nothing short of disgraceful, tasteless and disrespectful to the dead or even anyone alive, it was a total ignorance of human feelings. While it is not expected from him to mourn the loss, it is at least expected that a person shouldn’t be disrespected after their death.

Gil Brandt’s comments sparked controversy on the internet and around the world with people coming together asking him for an apology, which eventually happened, but the question also arises on how players are treated in the NFL. The NBAs very own Damian Lillard also used firm words in order to criticise Brandt, which was reciprocated by many people. Damian Lillard was mourning the loss of NFL’s young talent Dwayne Haskins while the people from the NFL itself were making dehumanising and distasteful comments even after the player’s death. Gil Brandt was at the centre of controversy after he made distasteful remarks regarding Haskins’ death on NFL Radio while the hosts sat and listened, there was no opposition and it seemed as if the man had lost his senses and was out of his control while talking.

After Haskins’ death, Brandt went on NFL Radio to talk about the player, but instead ended up disrespecting the dead soul, Brandt said to Vic Carucci and Dan Leberfeld of Sirius XM NFL Radio, ‘I hate anytime anybody is killed or anybody dies. But he was a guy that was living to be dead,’.  After which he didn’t stop to think for a second about what he had just spoken, and followed it up with, ‘They told him don’t, under any circumstances, leave school early. You just don’t have the work habits. You don’t have this, you don’t have that. What did he do? Left school early,’ he said.

All this while, he was getting no opposition from the hosts, and again he said, ‘Maybe if he stayed in school a year he wouldn’t do silly things … [like] jogging on a highway,’ highlighting how disrespectful he could be.

Damian Lillard spoke for everyone else when he tweeted out saying that life is bigger than some sports, professional rivalries shouldn’t come in the way of you simply respecting a person, as a human before you treat them as a player or as a rival. Dame also called Brandt a “crazy mother****er” highlighting the strong emotions. Dame’s statements were backed by users on social media calling out Brandt for his terrible actions.
