Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers is a story full of tragedies, ranging from injuries to controversy. The story has it all, it begins with a new guy who is supposed to be the last hope of a team which will leads to its revival, the guy pairs up with other members of the squad in order to lead the way for team to get to their goal of winning the championship, and that too with one of the finest records.

Then the team begins their journey again to achieve the same goal again, but they fail, another year passes by and this time the team does the same thing again, fails, but this time it happens terribly, the player suffers from injury almost throughout the season, his teammates are involved in controversy and the team is nearly shattered.

What lead to the shattering of the team includes a plethora of reasons, ranging from players like Russel Westbrook and his inconsistency to LeBron James and his ego which led to Westbrook being added to the squad, to the team’s coach Frank Vogel whose strategies didn’t seem to work for the team at all, then to the owners and the management who according to some players led to their own downfall.

After all of these possibilities being discussed throughout the season, the blame now finally seems to be shifting to 1/3rd of the Lakers Big 3, Anthony Davis. Davis who was added to the Lakers squad in the year 2020 has played a total of 76 games out of a total of 154 games for the team, highlighting the impact injuries have had on him.
Let us now take a closer look at Bill Simmons’ assessment of the Anthony Davis situation with the Los Angeles Lakers and how he blames Davis for their downfall.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a terrible season, accompanied by one of the worst season records attained by the franchise. The team has suffered throughout the season even despite the presence of big names like Anthony Davis, LeBron James, along with whom the addition of Russell Westbrook to the squad was expected to create problems for any other team that dared to stand in front of them.

Unlike everyone else’s expectation, the team has failed, and has given drastically bad results throughout the season. LeBron James has tried to carry the team on his shoulders singlehandedly, but to expect all the results from the just one player is something that didn’t work out really well for the team.

Anthony Davis was supposed to work with James together in order to give the team the results they need by dividing the workload, but alas, Davis has barely played a good percentage of games for the team this season. The player has suffered long layoffs due to his injury, and after comebacks, he has faced injuries again, which forced him to be out for even more time. Instead of supporting LeBron, Davis has caused more trouble for the team, and Bill Simmons seems to have identified the problem.

Simmons said, “Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, those are AD’s peers, and AD looks the oldest and moves the worst. It starts with him, forget about LeBron, he’s getting old. LeBron shouldn’t be the best player on a team anymore. He’s 37 with 60k+ minutes on him.”

Throughout the season where Russel Westbrook has had to face the wrath of the media and fans from all around the world, people have failed to recognise the importance Davis also holds in the squad, it should equally be important to figure out that the health of the player is his own to handle and that shouldn’t be a hinderance in the team’s path of getting to the championship, and honestly at this point, the path is lost, and they are nowhere near finding it.

A compilation of Davis’ injuries

Anthony Davis’ short term plays with the team haven’t really helped them, and the team has already been ruled out of the play-ins contention this year. After all of this, if Davis is traded to any other team, it wouldn’t really be a surprise for anyone around the world if they aren’t literally living under a rock.

Davis doesn’t seem to be letting the Trade news have any impact on him as well, but it will be interesting to see who all the Lakers will trade and what all changes the squad will go through. Like Brian Windhorst said, the Lakers might need to change the entire squad and start off from scratch.
