Bam Adebayo didn’t waste any time in taking shots at fellow contender in the DPOY rankings, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has very high chances of taking the title of defensive player of the year this time, but Smart feels otherwise, he feels that he is the true recipient of the award, keeping in mind the multitude of reasons that he listed. According to the Miami Heat’s big man Adebayo, the reasons listed by him were simple and credible enough to make people believe that he is the one who should truly get the award.
Bam Adebayo has gone from a bench player to one of the most important forces in the Miami Heat’s squad, which now consider him a necessity at both the ends of the court as the player is averaging a double-double this season with 19 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, giving his team the overall edge, they have always needed. The powerful force in Adebayo is something that does give him more credibility than other players in contention, but to compare himself to the 2-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is something that has led to people questioning his claims.
Miami Heat are now at the top of the table in the Eastern Conference, a part of credits of which should also go to Bam Adebayo, for his valiant effort in order to lead the way for his team as an overall player, helping them get the much-needed dubs. Giannis who is already a two time MVP in the league is now leading the DPOY table, but Bam feels otherwise, he feels that he is the true deserving candidate for the award in which people are placing Giannis at the top of the table.

In an interview, Adebayo said that he was having the real eye-catching performances in comparison to Giannis Antetokounmpo, and that was something that places him above the latter in contention. Adebayo said, “At this point, I’m the only one making those eye-popping plays…it’s my pride.” , but by saying this, Adebayo released a new set of problems for himself. People have now started comparing every aspect of Adebayo’s game to that of Giannis in order to prove to the player that he isn’t worth it.
Adebayo currently is not on top of the list or rather not even the top three as the first position is currently occupied by Giannis Antetokounmpo, followed by Rudy Gobert, who has won the title 3 times in the last 4 years, and then Mikal Bridges who currently occupies the third position. Giannis Antetokounmpo currently wouldn’t be worried about anything Adebayo or anyone else is saying because he stands at the top of the list, far-far away from Adebayo, who might have to stick to making statements in order to still remind people of his existence.
