Stephen Curry, the marquee player of the Golden State Warriors is now a household name for being the best shooter the history of the sport has ever seen and is now almost synonymous with the team itself, which won 2 NBA Championships straight with the player and had dominating seasons even when they were unable to capture the title. Curry, also known as the Baby-Faced Assassin was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the year 2009 as the 7th pick in the very first round. This is the story of how things fell in place for Curry even with him wishing for something different at the time of the draft.
Stephen Curry who was always known for being a lethal shooter had different aspirations initially when he was about to be drafted to the NBA and wished to be a part of the New York Knicks in what he felt was a perfect moment at the night of the draft, which was happening on 25th June 2009 at the night of his dad’s birthday. The New York Knicks had the 8th pick that year and the Warriors had the 7th, and this is where Curry felt the need to highlight the quote “Be careful what you wish for”.

Stephen Curry while in a conversation highlighted that he always wanted to be a part of the New York Knicks and didn’t wish for anything else as the 2009 draft was a “dream come true” moment for him with his dad, Dell Curry’s birthday falling on the same day as the draft, that is the 25th of June, the draft that year being held in New York and also the conversations he had previously had with the GM of New York Knicks who assured him that if they did get a chance, they would draft Curry for their team.
Instead, Stephen Curry was drafted to the Golden State Warriors as their 7th pick in the year 2009, and guess what, Curry identifies that nothing could’ve gone better for him than his aspirations of being a part of the New York Knicks being crushed. Curry reiterated, “be careful what you wish for” and then followed it up by saying, “Everything happened the way it was supposed to happen, so I’m a Warrior” and this happened as he “absolutely wanted to be a part of the Knicks”. While he initially wanted to be a part of the Knicks, Curry reiterated that he was thankful for the way things had gone for him throughout his career so far.
Stephen Curry’s achievements with the Warriors
Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry are both incomplete without each other, and seem to be complementary in most of the places. Curry brought warriors two championships with the first one coming more than 40 years after they won the championship last in 1975. Stephen Curry has also managed to keep Warriors in the lead this season and continuously for the past few seasons as the player along with his fellow “Splash Brother” Klay Thompson as both of them lead the way for the team with 3-pointers and dominating games.
