Breaking News: Tennessee man convicted of killing ex-NBA player Lorenzen Wright gets life imprisonment

Former NBA star Lorenzen Wright’s family finally was able to get some justice when 51-year-old convict Billy Ray Turner, was sentenced life in prison on Monday. The 7th overall pick in the 1996 draft, Lorenzen Wright was killed in his hometown of Memphis, when earlier reports of him missing had shook the hoop world. After which, the highly devastating news of his decomposing body was announced. 

To add to the case, prosecution alleged Lorenzen Wright’s ex-wife, Sherra Wright, hired two other people, including Billy Ray Turner to commit the murder by luring the victim to the field under the guise that they were there to meet someone who owed his ex-some considerable amount.

To those who are not aware, Billy Ray Turner had pled not guilty to first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy, was found guilty by a jury after only 2 hours of deliberation. The judge sentenced Turner to life in prison for the murder charge. He will again go before a judge sometime in the future where he’ll be sentenced for the other two charges.

Apart for Turner, talking about Sherra Wright, who surely had gone beyond all limits to get this hideous crime executed, she previously plead guilty to facilitation of murder and facilitation to commit first-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison in July 2019. She will be eligible for parole after only 9 years.

Lorenzen Wright was McDonald’s All-American in high-school and an All-American at the University of Memphis, and played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers.

During Lorenzen’s time in the league for 13 seasons, he was known for his versatility, and aggressive style of play, catching up to the pace of the game. In his career he managed to average 8 points per game, and more than 6 rebounds per game. His best season had come in the 2000-01 season, wherein he managed to average career high 12.4 points per game.
