Allen Iverson is probably the only one ever to face Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant while maintaining a special relationship with each of them as a pure form of respect. Having a journey of his own from being in jail to getting inducted into the NBA’s Hall of fame Allen has always been a special player with great potential and unique talent as fans nicknamed him “AI” and “The Answer”.
A clip of Allen Iverson choosing Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant over LeBron James stands viral today as sitting alongside Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes a year ago AI reflected his journey at “All The Smoke” podcast. Discussing the greats of Kobe Bryant out of nowhere Allen Iverson quoted: “Mount Rushmore, Kobe up there. I mean my favorite it’s always going to be Mike you know what I mean Kobe. My one and two and LeBron you know I mean just so great. But what Mike and Kobe did to me mentally…”
Matt Barnes then made it more precise and clear as he asked: “So you got Mike 1, Kobe 2 and Bron 3?” Replying to it Allen quoted: “Yeah I got Bron number 3.” Barnes not stopping there and trying to get all the smoke out of it questioning AI said: “Can Bron, hop Kobe in your eyes finishing his career in any kind of aspect.” The Answer answering to it quoted: “Nah.. m not… As great he is I am not gonna do it. Just cuz Bron when talking about me he wanted to be me and he didn’t wanna be Mike. Cauz you know how much he loves Mike it ain’t no disrespect. I just love Mike so much and Kobe is the closest thing to me, to Mike and LeBron is just… Hands down LeBron James he is in a class by himself.” Allen had pretty solid reasoning for his ranks on LeBron as he gave away the reason behind Bron being at 3.

Allen Iverson is probably the first and last competitor who was emotionally connected with his competition as we all know the great bond he shared with Kobe Bryant. AI from getting picked up in a car to going out to eat and then getting the offer to hop on a club rejected as Kobe Bryant wanted to visit the gym and work out has seen it all. The amount of love and respect he had for Kobe is just insane and something which isn’t talked a lot about. Kobe on the other hand, had the same for him as he has mentioned in many of his interviews.
But the special bond he shares with Michael Jordan is something very different as he earned his respect by crossing him up. There are not many players Michael Jordan in his career accepted as a challenger but both Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant are on that list. This sums up the emotional connection between the three from their in-game on-court experiences to the off-court culture they have created.
LeBron James is just unlucky to be at three but many find it right as they believe Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are far better than what he is. But something which is known by the least is Bron idolizing Allen Iverson as a player with Michael Jordan for the cultural effect he made and the greats he has achieved while being one of the smallest running coast to coast.
