NBA champ names $50 million price to ‘take a fall’ against Jake Paul

Jrue Holiday reveals his intentions to fight Jake Paul.

Jake Paul has been all over the internet for nearly a decade. Be it his online shenanigans or his multi-million-dollar boxing bouts. He has taken the boxing world by storm, taking on opponents from all sorts of backgrounds, with his latest endeavour being against 58-year-old Mike Tyson. Next in line might just be 2x NBA Champ Jrue Holiday, who seems ready to take on the match, with a few conditions.

Jrue Holiday, one of the league’s toughest defenders, found himself considering the idea of facing Jake Paul in the ring. During an appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, George asked Holiday about the possibility of seeing him in the ring. Holiday joked that for the right price, he might even be willing to “take a fall” against the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

$50 million? That really put things into perspective. I’ll make it look realistic… That last [Tyson] fight, I don’t know nothing about nothing, but I could do that. We could pump it up a little bit, I could take him through my whole training camp and all that… I’ll swing one time and he can hit me. Cool. $50 million [secured].

Jrue Holiday joked on the podcast

Surprisingly, for a professional boxer like Jake Paul, this would not be his first time in the (boxing) ring with a basketball player. Among his most talked-about matches was a 2020 bout against former NBA star Nate Robinson. Paul’s knockout victory over Robinson was a major part of establishing himself as a mainstream boxer.

Jrue Holiday’s response may have been tongue-in-cheek, but it does showcase the immense financial appeal of celebrity boxing matches. The idea of trading in the hardwood for the boxing ring isn’t entirely far-fetched, however, Holiday’s hypothetical willingness to lose for the payout speaks to the entertainment-driven nature of these events.

Jrue Holiday questions Steve Kerr’s controversial Jayson Tatum decision

Jrue Holiday also delved into a more serious topic during the podcast: the controversial management of Jayson Tatum’s playing time during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Coming off a championship win with the Boston Celtics, Tatum was widely expected to play a pivotal role for Team USA. However, head coach Steve Kerr’s decision to limit Tatum’s minutes left many, including Holiday, puzzled.

It is definitely hard to see because you want the best for your men. Was it weird? Yeah. That’s Jayson Tatum. He’s a top 5 player in the league and just won a championship. The way he handled it, like a professional. He never brought it into the locker room.

Jrue Holiday claimed

Holiday’s comments reflect a common sentiment among Team USA players and fans. While the roster was stacked with stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, Tatum’s championship momentum made him a prime candidate for more significant minutes. More importantly, Tatum had also been a key member of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold Medal Team USA squad.

Although he found support and advice from many stars, Steve Kerr’s decision was definitely a stinger for Tatum and his fellow Celtics teammates. However, one thing is for certain – Steve Kerr does not carry any regrets.
