“David Stern got a son or something?” NBA champion rips Adam Silver for ‘tweaking too much’ with new proposal
Former Laker, Nick Young, did not mince his words regarding the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver's new proposal.
Adam Silver and Nick Young
Adam Silver appeared on Dan LeBatard‘s show as a guest. The NBA is the sole basketball competition in the globe that uses 12-minute quarters, Silver told the former ESPN analyst. Silver wants to shorten the NBA quarters from 12 to 10 minutes to increase the league’s worldwide reach. However, this did not go down well with former NBA players, Gilbert Arenas, Nick Young, and Rashad McCants.
On the latest segment of Gil’s Arena Podcast, the 3 stars sat down to discuss Silver’s new proposal idea. However, the conversation quickly turned into trolling, with McCants mentioning former NBA commissioner, David Stern. In addition, NBA champion, Young also took a jab towards Silver and Stern in the process.
Nick Young said on the Gil’s Arena Podcast, “How long is this contract (Adam Silver’s contract)? You’re thinking too much, you’re tryna do too much now.” To which, Rashad McCants subtly chimes in saying, “Bring David Stern back!” Hilariously, Young responds, “David Stern got a son or something” leaving the room with laughs and smiles on their faces.
"The world watched games because it was free. Today it's not free. So [TV ratings] are down because the NBA don't have free sh*t no more."

Adam Silver’s 10-min quarter idea debate turns into a viewership screaming match 😭 pic.twitter.com/j4zD1zYCKU
On the other hand, the NBA Commissioner is attempting to stay ahead of the viewership debate, and Silver’s remarks are the most recent example. Silver most recently promised to address the issue of “too many 3-pointers” during an interview on Shaquille O’Neal‘s podcast. This was in response to repeated complaints from fans and analysts.
The NBA is obviously at least contemplating the concept of 10-minute quarters. This was as seen by Silver’s public discussion of it. It might be simpler for a global audience to begin watching the NBA if this approach is followed. However, with various stars and coaches disapproving of this idea, it remains to be seen how this pans out going forward into the year.
NBA coach disapproves Adam Silver’s 10-minute quarters request
Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone does not seem to be a big fan of Adam Silver‘s idea of 10-minute quarters in the NBA. Despite many leagues adopting this idea, Malone clearly disapproves of it. He made his thoughts known after his side lost to the New York Knicks by 122-112 on Wednesday in the NBA.
Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone got honest when talking about NBA commissioner Adam Silver proposing 10-minute NBA quarters:

“I hope we don’t go to 10-minute quarters. I hope we don’t go to the four-point line. I hope we don’t become Barnum & Bailey where we’re just… pic.twitter.com/8x2bNeHVSP
The proposal was opposed by other NBA coaches besides Malone. The notion was likewise rejected by his opponent that evening, New York Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. He identified himself as a ‘traditionalist’ and stated that he wished to see the NBA remain unchanged. Now, with these coaches opposing Silver’s views, all eyes will be on the league’s decision in the upcoming months.
