Charles Oakley was recently in an interview with SNY’s Eamon McAnaney, where they both discussed Oakley’s book “The Last Enforcer”, and also shared stories of Michael Jordan, the impact Pat Riley had on the team and their identity, his biggest regret as a Knick as well as why he would take Michael Jordan over LeBron James in a pick-up.

The interview had a manifold of topics being discussed from Oakley’s long and vivid career in the NBA, where he played alongside and against the legend, Michael Jordan and what it felt like to be close to Jordan at one point, and be his business Archenemy in the other.

While agreeing to many rule changes in the NBA between the time they both played and the current generation of NBA players, Oakley stuck to choosing Michael Jordan over Cleveland’s LeBron James, while also giving a guess that Jordan would score over 40-50 points on an average in every game if he played right now.

The perennial debates of who is better between Michael Jordan and LeBron James will never end, always giving rise to new statements and arguments from many different people, but Charles Oakley also had a few things to say in this regard of the comparison between them both, and who is the A-Side in this debate.

With what is supposed to be taken as the final decision by Charles Oakley even when he seemed a little confused over the question, Oakley chose his ex-teammate and the legend Michael Jordan over the current generation’s icon, LeBron James, if he was given the first pick in order to choose a player for a pick-up match.

After a careful consideration, and keeping in mind the fact that he knows them both personally and has seen them both play, Charles Oakley chose Michael Jordan over LeBron James for a pick-up match, while also terming it as a “hard decision” reiterating that both of them are the cream of the crop in their respective generations.

Oakley said with certain hesitation and a short pause, “I’m gonna have to take, uh, I’m gonna take Michael Jordan,” while also adding, “It’s a hard decision. I mean, it’s A1 and A2. I know Michael the longest and LeBron grew up around knowing him and got to be one of his friends. You can’t go wrong with either one. Both of them is the cream of the crop,” which seems like a fair point to make.

The LeBron James and Michael Jordan debate

With what is expected to be a never-ending debate in the foreseeable future, the argument of who is better between Michael Jordan and LeBron James will certainly remain inconclusive, giving no results whatsoever.

While both of them are termed as the Greatest in their respective generations, people often tend to create imaginary situations of what would happen if they came face to face. While certain stats might favour one, certain other stats might favour the other, and while certain playing styles would favour one, other stylistic matchups would favour the other, giving this no end.

Impractical statements often made by people

With what is often said, people act as if two legends can’t ever co-exist, which also seems a little far fetched as these are legends from different generations, and there must be no argument to prove which one is better as it simply is nothing but disrespectful to both of their legacies.

For all that we know and all that we don’t, both of them have never stopped respecting each other even after most of the assumptions and statements people make, which proves that such debates are far from reality and are nothing, but a figment of creative imagination for self-satisfaction of one side putting down the other.
