CJ McCollum suffers from Pneumothorax in Blazers vs Celtics Clash; Status still questionable
Things got tough for CJ McCollum after he suffered from Pneumothorax on Saturday. The Portland Trail Blazers are in a big problem after their key players have injured themselves and are out indefinitely. The Trail Blazers haven’t had the best season so far but we’re managing just fine with Damian Lillard as the Front Runner.
With a score of 11-14, the Blazers are at 10th in the Western Conference. Reaching the conference finals is going to be tough if they continue this pace considering the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns’ presence makes it much harder.
They have lost their last 3 consecutive games; yesterday’s loss against the LA Clippers was the third. The Clippers snatched the Victory in the 4th quarter by drawing out a lead of 9 points. The blazers failed to retain their moment back and hence fell short of the clippers.
But what’s more pressing for the Blazers is their player’s physical conditions that might be a hindrance in moving forward.
CJ McCollum Might be out because of his Injury
CJ McCollum collapsed on the court during the Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics clash on Saturday. This all transpired during the 4th Quarter when he was reported for Lung contusion for Monday’s game against the LA Clippers. The team informed the reporters on Tuesday after the CT scan that McCollum’s right lung collapsed.
The official statement released by the Portland Trail Blazers says,
“Upon further examination, a CT scan revealed that Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has a pneumothorax (right lung), the team announced today. McCollum sustained the injury during the 4th quarter of Portland’s game versus Boston on December 4. He will be further evaluated before a prognosis is determined and his status will be updated accordingly. McCollum did not travel with the team for Wednesday’s game at Golden State.”
In layman’s terms, pneumothorax is collapsing of the lung, which can be a serious issue if not attended immediately as it creates a lot of tension between the chest and the lungs. Think about not being able to breathe because your vital breathing organs collapsed. Good thing is that once healed, this injury has no long-term effects.
CJ McCollum was drafted by the Portland Trail Trail Blazers in 2013, and since he has proven himself to be an asset for the franchise. He is averaging 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists this season for the Trail Blazers. The NBA Fans took on Twitter to send their prayers and get well soon wishes to CJ McCollum.
The Trail Blazers will continue their road game without CJ McCollum and the next stop is the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Centre in San Francisco on Wednesday, December 8th.
