In the knockout game for the Pelicans, nothing was going in their favor whether it was momentum or score until their head coach Willie Green delivered the most motivational speech on Friday night.

It was the last game of the play-in tournament where the Pelicans and the Clippers were battling for the eighth spot in the western conference. Until halftime, the pelicans were leading the game by 10 points but things turned drastically in the third quarter where they not only lost the lead but also fall to a 10-points deficit till the quarter-end, the team was looking upset but not their first-year coach.

Well, the speech actually worked the Pelicans were looking like the most motivated side during the fourth quarter. The final quarter started with 84-74, but it didn’t take time for the Pelicans to turn the tide of the game where they edged out the Clipper by 105-101 and won their tickets to playoffs for the first time after the 2018 season. the New Orleans outscored the LA-based by 31-17 in the final quarter.

After the victory, Green spoke about it during the postgame conference, “Our mentality is that we’re going to continue to fight. We’re not going to fade out. That’s what I wanted our guys to understand. They’ve earned this moment. They’ve earned this opportunity. And, it’s just there for us to go take it and we have to take it.”

The Pelicans have become the fourth team in the entire history of the NBA to start the season with a 1-12 record or worse and still made their place into the playoffs. Meanwhile, the credit for the Pelicans’ insane season should go to their coach Green who will now be on his way to Phoenix for his first-round matchup against the Suns for whom he was the assistant coach for the last two seasons
