Kelly Oubre Jr missed the potential dunk of the year

Kelly Oubre Jr. and his team Charlotte Hornets did not have a good night on Friday on the court. The Charlotte Hornets had to take the 102-101 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. The Hornets are now 28-25 for the season, 9th in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers are surprisingly 3rd in the East with a 32-21 record.

Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 21 points off the bench for the Hornets on an inefficient 7-19 from the field. Terry Rozier scored team-high 24 points in the game. LaMelo Ball also had a bad game with just 15 points, just three assists, and six turnovers. The Hornets team shot badly overall from the field at just 41%.

Kevin Love also had a good game with 25 points off the bench with six three-pointers and clutch free throws towards the end. Just like the Hornets, the Cavaliers also shot poorly from the field at just 40%.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is known for some freakish dunks and has had some of the best dunks over the past few years. Last season, when Kelly Oubre Jr was with the Warriors, he also had a wild offensive put-back dunk over Kevin Durant which was at the time being hailed as the Dunk of the Year. Kelly tried to do something along similar lines in the Friday night game too.

In the 2nd quarter of the game, Kelly Oubre Jr tried a three-pointer but it did not go in. The Hornets were lucky enough to get an offensive board. The play continued as Cody Martin of the Hornets tried to make a three-pointer. Kelly recognized the trajectory of the ball and for the offensive rebound. He caught it high and almost made it a one-handed tomahawk but unfortunately could not finish. The ball struck hard on the rim and bounced away. As per the unwritten NBA media rules, dunks either end up in ‘Dunk of the Year’ conversations or on Shaqtin’ A Fool. Twitter knew where this one was going:
