DeMar DeRozan Joins Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ben Simmons in Unique Record With Latest 40-point Explosion Against Magic

If there is one word to explain the scoring prowess of DeMar DeRozan for the Chicago Bulls, it is exceptional! The veteran guard has been back his best since the beginning of the 2021-22 season. And the team’s latest match added to the claim even more.

In their match against Orlando Magic, the Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan dropped a season high 41-points, and while Chicago Bulls still lost, the most surprising part was that DeMar DeRozan didn’t attempt a single 3-pointer. DeRozan went 15-21 from field goals and 11-13 off the free throw line.

DeMar DeRozan’s Record Breaking Performance

With the league now becoming a 3-point fanatic where more attention has been given to the three-point shooting abilities of the players in the league, people have lauded DeRozan for his mid-range shooting, calling him the “Mid-Range Monster” or “DeMonster of Mid-Range”. While the entire league is stuck on the 3-point plays, DeRozan has managed to make mid-range plays and help his team in gaining the desired momentum. Even though Bulls fell short tonight, the performance by DeRozan enters the record books, alongside other fellow competitors.

In the matchup against Orlando Magic, DeRozan made points solely from the mid-range, gathering a whopping 41 points in the game which was his highest since 2018, and what made it more special was that DeRozan didn’t attempt a single 3 in the entire game.

DeRozan joins Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russel Westbrook, LaMarcus Aldridge and Ben Simmons in the list of the only players who made 40+ points without a single 3-point attempt since 2015.

DeRozan has been averaging 26.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game, leading the Chicago Bulls in the absence of some of their star players. Despite the herculean effort by DeRozan, wherein he scored almost half of the team’s points, Bulls still lost and raised a few questions about the burden that falls on their star players’ shoulder.

Chicago Bulls’ Performance This Season

Chicago Bulls Team

In their match against Orlando Magic, the Bulls fell short with a very big margin, the only player who was able to perform was the main man, DeMar DeRozan. The final score was 114-05 in the favour of Orlando Magic.

Coach Billy Donovan said “I can sit there and talk about who’s not playing, but for the guys that are playing, how well can we manage and handle things that we can take care of? I did not think that we did a good enough job on either end of the floor”.

According to the coach, the team is facing a shortage of confidence and aggression, and even in this match, the only man who stood between them and defeat was DeRozan, who couldn’t entirely turn the tides for the Bulls.
The Bulls stand at 3rd position in the Eastern Conference, right behind the Brooklyn Nets. With a run of 28-17 in the entire season and 1-4 in the past 5 games, Bulls seems to show the lack of confidence and aggression which they previously did. Now it is for the Bulls to see and decide what can and what can be done amidst the injury ridden season the team is having.

No matter how many masterful performances DeRozan is able to put up for the team, be it from the mid range, while being the mid range monster or outside the 3-point line, the Bulls can’t entirely rely on one single player to compete against the best teams in the league. It is for the Bulls to decide, how they change their strategy in order to accommodate and solve all the issues they’re facing, and till that happens, we’ll enjoy the lustrous performances of the Mid Range Elite, DeMar DeRozan.
