“Do I want to come back? Why would I want to leave?” Dwight Howard urges to continue his season with Los Angeles Lakers despite 2022 havoc
Los Angeles Lakers Center Dwight Howard
Los Angeles Lakers had a bad season behind some poor performances from their marquee stars. Dwight Howard was one with an underperforming season, but he intends to stay with the purple and gold franchise in the coming future.
The 11th seed finish and early exit from the season were never in minds of any Laker fan. But the reality on the court was very disappointing for the Championship-caliber team, especially being led by LeBron James. The round of exit interviews started very early with eyes on next season’s build-up. On the same note, Dwight Howard also had his say in the exit interview. After 3 different Lakers teams, the big center is still looking to continue his association with one of the greatest franchises in the league.
While talking in his exit interview, Dwight made his intentions clear about the future. He said, “I want to be cemented somewhere. I love being here, I love the fans… I would just really like an opportunity to where I can really go out and go out with a bang. I’ve only got a couple of years left, so I want an opportunity where I can go out and show my skills and talent and do it in the right way, but also win. I feel like I deserve that.”
Dwight Howard reacts to Los Angeles Lakers’ 2022 season
Like every other Lakers player, Dwight Howard was also disappointed about the seasons’ outcome. Dwight was brought in to provide some steel in the center. He was an important part of the Lakers 2020 Champion team, providing a nice backup for Anthony Davis. After a season with the 76ers, Howard joined the Lakers to repeat the glory with the franchise. But things were not the same in 2022.
36-years old veteran played 60 games this season averaging 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist with limited time on the floor. His productions were way below his career average of 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game.
After in-famous seasons with Los Angeles Lakers Icon Kobe Bryant, he actually redeemed himself in 2020, as fans backed him nicely and the 3-time defensive player of the year complemented well to LeBron-Davis pair extraordinarily. But with his current performance and age factor, his return to the franchise is mainly in hands of the Lakers front office, as he is a currently unrestricted free agent.
