“Done this before”: Phil Martelli’s bold reaction after taking over Michigan’s Juwan Howard
Juwan Howard and Phil Martelli
Nationwide headlines were made on Sunday night when Michigan Wolverines Coach Juwan Howard decided to sucker punch assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft after exchanging heated words with coach Greg Gard. As a result of which the same personnel were suspended for the next five-games, which means for the rest of the season after his team’s loss to Wisconsin Badgers. Now, for the remaining tenure of this season, Phil Martelli seems to be his replacements.
With his team locking horns against the Rutgers on Wednesday, in their next matchup, Phil Martelli decided to launch a bold message. Safe to say, if anyone knows what they are doing, Martelli seems to be that guy. Who can most certainly, take over the Juwan Howard’s team in rampant fashion.

What was opinionated by Phil Martelli?
“I know what I am doing. I have done this before,” said Phil Martelli on Tuesday as quoted by ClutchPoints.
To those who are not aware about the iconic Phil Martelli and his background, let’s do a quick re-check. The 67-year-old has spent nearly 40 years in college hoops, having been the head coach of Saint Joseph’s from 1995 to 2019. Martelli led the team to seven NCAA tournament appearances, an experience that will certainly help him when he assumes the role of head coach for the Wolverines.
Martelli made sure to emphasize that he will “continue on the path created” by Howard, noting that he doesn’t have the “offensive mind” of the suspended Wolverines head coach. Moreover, Phil Martelli made sure to say that Michigan will continue to participate in the handshake line.
That being said, all eyes will be on the red-hot team, who have lost their previous game against the hands of Badgers. Given that the season has approached its business end, it will be important and interesting to see how Martelli is able to cope up with Juwan Howard’s squad. But is it indeed safe to say, that looking at his background, it does feel like Wolverines are in safe hands with Phil Martelli coming on board.
