Fans react to LeBron James' hilarious King Von tribute
LeBron James has always been a music aficionado, especially making his love for hip-hop well-known. Recently, fans unearthed an old social media post from November 2020, where James paid tribute to the late Chicago rapper King Von after his tragic death outside an Atlanta nightclub due to a fatal shootout.
The 2020 tribute post from LeBron James resurfaced amid another viral moment, as he was seen rapping to tracks by Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z during his 40th birthday celebration. In his post, James penned an emotional and expressive message for the late rapper, showcasing his admiration for King Von.
Damn Rest Easy Von! Bronny, Bryce and I rocked with his music and story telling! The kid had a damn good future ahead of him. My prayers and blessings to his family. ?? #LeVonJames #KingVon
— LeBron James (@KingJames) November 6, 2020
While James’ tribute was intended as a gesture of respect, fans couldn’t help but point out the irony of the NBA icon, known for his clean-cut image, aligning with a rapper who had a controversial past. King Von, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, had been heavily involved in gang violence in Chicago and was reported to have been involved in at least 7 murder cases.
The hashtag ‘LeVon James’ became a point of focus, with fans joking about the unintentional endorsement of Von by LeBron James. However, it is interesting to note that the hashtag referred to Von’s second and final mixtape before his passing, which was titled ‘LeVon James’, intended to pay tribute to King James himself.

The resurfaced tweet drew mixed reactions from fans, with many finding humor in LeBron James associating himself with King Von, who was infamously linked to Chicago’s gang violence. However, most fans of King Von and King James were quick to bring up the ‘LeVon James’ mixtape, justifying James’ use of the hashtag.

While most fans mostly replied to the post in jest, it is worth noting that the stories surrounding King Von are extremely disturbing. He has often been coined as ‘rap’s first serial killer’ with several disturbing stories.
Therefore, it’s definitely understandable why some fans found it noteworthy to draw attention to LeBron James’ endorsement of the late Chicago rapper.
