Nick Wright and Chris Broussard are the hosts for Fox Sports Media Group’s “First Things First” show where they talk about top sports stories and debate on issues around it while giving out hot takes. In their latest segment, they discussed LeBron James’ knee injury and his time with Los Angeles Lakers. Chris Broussard was back at taking big shots at LeBron as he once again this season brought in the topic of father-time hitting Bron lately.

LeBron James being 37 years old and playing his 19th season in the league is still at the top as the best and his prime still continues. Los Angeles Lakers this offseason got their core exchanged as “LeGm” (LeBron James) hand-picked a veteran roster where he added names like Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony to the board. But his MVP calibre performance and all the vets aren’t enough and the team is seen falling short without chemistry and a good supporting cast backing the King up.

Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers are ranked as the 9th seed in the western conference with the record of 25 wins and 27 losses at .481 as LeBron James is sidelined due to a knee injury and they just completed an unsuccessful road trip. Nick Wright and Chris Broussard discussed the problem LeBron and the Lakers can have as father time lately hits the King and he falls short due to injuries because of age. Both Nick and Chris are on the Laker’s board as they are LeBron’s fans but we’re brutally honest and critical as they discussed the situation around the team.

Chris started with taking a shot at LeBron for his knee injury as he quoted: “It’s not a huge serious injury but this is a big deal. Nonetheless, because this is age this is father time knocking on LeBron’s door and that’s all this is…In three of the three and half seasons that he’s played with the Lakers, he’s had a serious season-ending or not ending but altering injury. Even though the Lakers are saying it’s not a big deal we have heard it before…(read a headline from a 2018 article of LeBron) After a summer worth of rest one season he got through unscathed was what the Bubble year where you had four months to get your body right. So unfortunately this is the challenge of age and so Nick I do think it’s a big deal.” Further, Chris threw light on some strategies of Lakers to use Bron in playoffs but countering in brought the chemistry issue.

Nick Wright jumping in disagreed with it being a big deal and corrected a fact of LeBron having only 2 bad seasons with injuries and not three in his purple and yellow uniform. Nick Wright also appreciated LeBron James for playing through injuries and mentioned how due to age the Lakers are just extra-cautious with him.  Talking about one of the recent injuries of Bron where Solomon Hill dashed into his ankles last year, Wright quoted: “Thanks to circus Solomon Hill doing his trapeze act on court to somersaulting into his ankles.” Adding his perspective to the connection of injuries and age he said: “He is not as invincible as he once was and the team is smartly not asking him the way the Cavs would have or the heat would have ‘hey can you play through it’. Because he has played the third-most minutes in the history of the game. We talk about Father time that two things usually happen when father time wild is approaching you. One is the increase injury rate we are seeing that and the other is you are not as good as. But he is scoring in the best rate so far…” Then Nick brought in a legendary comparison of LeBron with Kobe Bryant, Kareem and Karl Malone.

Replying to another host at the show for LeBron missing 30 percent of Lakers games, Wright defended the team and Bron mentioned the playoffs goal they have or maybe getting into the play-in tournament if they don’t get a spot. Mentioning the rest time the King needs Wright also reflected the reason behind the Lakers getting Russell Westbrook. Further talking about the superstars in the league and comparing them with Bron they added how Los Angeles Lakers would like to face Golden State Warriors in the playoffs and not the Phoenix Suns as they have the size advantage against the Dubs.
