Gilbert Arenas

Gilbert Arenas was one of the best guards of the mid-2010s. Especially his stretch between 2005-2007 when he took his team Washington Wizards to the playoffs and earned himself an All-Star berth is one of the best in Wizards’ history.

But it was after this golden period that brought the demise of Arenas’ career. It was December 2009, when the NBA’s infamous ‘Gun Incident‘ took place. Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton of the Washington Wizards got into a card game dispute. Two days later, Arenas apparently brought four guns to the arena and asked Crittenton to pick one.

Crittenton then pulled out a gun of his own and pointed it at Arenas. Everyone fled the scene except for another Wizard Caron Butler. Butler tried to talk sense into Crittenton warning him that he might lose his career. Crittenton eventually lowered the gun and Arenas walked back quietly.

Someone at the facility called 911 and the knowledge of the situation eventually reached NBA. NBA suspended Arenas and Crittenton for the entirety of the 2009-10 season. The Wizards went into a re-build mode, trading away most of their players. In 2010, the Wizards get the number one draft pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. They pick John Wall in 2010 and Bradley Beal in 2012, who would go on to become All-Stars and form the foundation of the Wizards organization.

Arenas stardom was finished and he was out of the league in the next two years. Crittenton was jailed for 23 years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

He also told – “I just bought a big gun collection, I just loved guns, so I had over 500 [guns]“. Arenas also told that he bought the collection of her ex-girlfriend’s father [age 70] who had been collecting since the age of six. That makes the guns in his collection date back to the 1940s.
