Born January 10, 1956, Joe Lacob spent his early years in Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of California Irvine and completed his master’s from UCLA in public health. Later, deciding to pursue a career in business, he took his MBA from Stanford. 

After completing his studies, Joe was associated with the Cetus Corporation, FHP International, and Booz, Allen, and Hamilton firm. It was in 1987 that Lacob partnered at the investment firm Kleiner Perkins, which worked across a variety of fields, including technology, medical equipment, and life sciences. He has invested across various sports ventures and was a minority stakeholder at the Boston Celtics from 2006 to 2010.

Joe Lacob has amassed an astounding wealth over the years that amount to about $1.5 billion as of 2023. He had originally invested in various sports projects, including the America Basketball League, before acquiring a minority stake in the Boston Celtics in 2006. 

This eventually saw him become part of the franchise when the Celtics won the 2008 NBA Championship. In 2010, Lacob partnered with Peter Guber and his group of investors to acquire the Golden State Warriors for $450 million from their previous owner Chris Cohan

Lacob sold his share at the Celtics and gained majority ownership of the franchise during the time of acquisition.
