LaMelo Ball and Kendrick Perkins

Kendrick Perkins is a retired NBA player who now is a host at ESPN’s First Take and also a player analyst for the same company. This time Kendrick Perkins is viral in the headlines but not for a hot take or criticism against a player but for some appreciation and personal analysis he has on the star LaMelo Ball. The Charlotte Hornets drafted LaMelo Ball third overall in the 2020 National Basketball Association’s Draft and since then the young gun has lived up to the expectations teams and fans had with him.

LaMelo Ball is just 20 years old and has already been through a journey in his career as he has a ton of experience of playing in professional leagues than any other rook has ever had in the league’s history. Before entering in the 2020 NBA draft LaMelo already had played overseas at Lithuania and Australia and even won the National Basketball League’s Rookie of the Year award which further led him to win NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. Ball this season has improved in all aspects of his game from his rookie year just in his second year in the league is averaging 19.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.6 assists with 1.7 blocks and 0.4 steals.

Kendrick Perkins believes LaMelo Ball is already a Superstar

Kendrick Perkins and Richard Jefferson discussing the question of “How soon until you’re ready to call LaMelo a superstar?” had a long exchange where they both debating over the topic shared their very own perspective. Richard believed that LaMelo is the best star out there but not someone you can call a superstar and threw great names like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson to defend his point. But Richard also compared Ball’s journey with LeBron James on how his career has been covered so far and said he can be one if he follows the right path which he really is doing.

Whereas Kendrick Perkins had a completely different perspective to it as he believed LaMelo Ball is already a superstar and added him to the list of current active superstars in the league like Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. The reasoning of Perkins was the massive fan following of Ball between the kids and other fans as he quoted: “When I think of a household name every kid in America loves Lamelo Ball. … He’s at the point where you can call him a superstar! And right now he is at the point where you can call him a superstar”.

Perkins isn’t all the way wrong in his idea of conveying LaMelo as a superstar because the star does has some uniqueness and tons of fans around the globe who know him. Also Melo isn’t any average player he is better than most of the guys of his age in and around the league but this bold claim from Perkins is nothing but just some too early prediction which might turn out to be true or might not we never know the only answer is to spectate the game and know by ourselves.
