The NBA is one of the tightest and strongest brotherhoods around today and within them are bonds that are almost incomparable. Many teams have built strong foundation with such relationship and have worked out really well for the most part. It did for the Golden State Warriors when they won their first ring and with the Toronto Raptors as well.
Speaking of the Toronto Raptors and ever strong friendships within the league, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan had such a relationship both on the court and outside the arena. Both individuals were a brilliant back court while they were together which helped them make multiple playoff appearances consistently. But the thought of these two players winning a ring together has become one of the league’s biggest moments to have never happened.
The former Toronto Raptors marquee duo
Kyle Lowry, a point guard out of Villanova was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies as the 24th overall pick during the 2006 NBA draft. He played three seasons with the team that brought him into the league before being traded to the Houston Rockets in a three team deal involving the Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic.
DeMar DeRozan was drafted by the Raptors in 2009 as the 9th overall pick. He played a majority of his career with the team with a total of nine season and eventually joined forces with his best friend in 2012. The team had made playoff appearances consistently 2014 but was overshadowed by a LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers team.
Just as the Raptors had an opening to win the title in the Eastern Conference with LeBron being shifted to the Western Conference, DeRozan was also traded for a “better scenario” with Kawhi Leonard. The Raptors went on the win the title that year (2018).
Now, DeRozan plays for the Chicago Bulls after signing $81 million (US) contract with them. Kyle Lowry signed with the Miami Heat after one more season with the Raptors before being acquired in exchange of Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa.

The two players have had a great relationship since the beginning of their run with the Raptors and they have shared many hilarious moments together. Both players have always tried to get in each other’s nerves only to spark funnier reactions. Take a look at this video of an exchange both players had during a locker room interview.
“It sucks to have a childish teammate like him. (to Lowry) You’re acting like my one year old. My four year old is better than you.” he said after being interrupted twice by Kyle Lowry screaming out his name during a serious interview. DeMar is almost like that one friend who takes everything seriously and Kyle is the opposite which makes their interactions even more laughter filled.
