“He would go from OK to MVP” Gilbert Arenas picks the best emerging point guard from Ja Morant, Luka Doncic, and LaMelo Ball

The sport of Basketball is ever-evolving and the game gets tougher every day. You have young stars erupting onto the scene, breaking records of all-timers and tying statistics in the mix. Some have created their unique legacy exceeding all expectations and surprising fans globally.
This season has shown us just that. Teams that were out of the playoff picture at some point last year are now at the top and young ballers have established their future in the league. Players such as Luka Doncic, Ja Morant, and LaMelo Ball, have all shown immense potential in their game elevating their teams onto a new path to success.
Gilbert Arenas chooses Luka Doncic as his go-to point guard
On being asked who he would pick as his point guard to build a team around, NBA legend Gilbert Arenas chose none other than the golden child of the league, the Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic. “Luka, I’m going to go with the big guard because he offset a lot of position because he can play the one, two, and three. I mean he’s just a mismatch no matter where you put him at,” said Arenas, confidently.
Arenas had made a wise choice choosing someone who could be utilized in multiple situations in today’s position-less game. Luka Magic has been extremely versatile on the floor playing three positions on an alternate basis. This helps the team make unique plays that could catch opponents off guard.
Luka has also been in the MVP conversation in the past for putting up incomparable winning numbers. During his second year in the league, he put up 28.8 points per game with 9.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists shooting 31.6% from three and 46.3% from the field (before the signing of a few of his current teammates). Today, he averages 25.2 points per game with 8.9 rebounds and 8.7 assists on a team with a good amount of surrounding talent. Luka’s consistency plays a huge role in his team’s success this season.
Gilbert Arenas believes LaMelo Ball will become MVP
Obviously, Arenas was given options other than Luka Doncic. One of those options was LaMelo Ball who was drafted second overall last season by the Charlotte Hornets. Ever since his acquisition, the team has been on a steady middle-order pace which is far better than being a bottom seed.
“LaMelo is more like the Jason Kidd type. Flashy, looking to pass. I mean, he can shoot a lot better, can score a lot better. You gotta remember he has no one right now. Like Bridges and all, they’re good cause he can get them the ball. But what happens when you put him around players who can go get it themselves also? Now he becomes harder to guard. He would go from OK to MVP candidate.”
The former Washington Wizards legend believes that with the right pieces, LaMelo could lead his team to a possible title contention or win the league’s Most Valuable Player award if he were surrounded by the right pieces.
He further compared the situation to when Steve Nash had joined the Phoenix Suns while Amar’e Stoudemire was at his peak. Another good example would be Luka Doncic and the Mavericks themselves after building the team around the All-Star point guard.
