“How are we expecting them to just turn on?” Jay Williams throws major shade as LeBron James, Lakers ahead of potential play-in matchup with Pelicans

LeBron James and Jay Williams
If the play-in tournament was to start today, it will be the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans battling it out in a knockout contest. With LeBron James’ purple and gold army looking less-than impressive during the entire 2021-22 season, Jay Williams has decided to throw major shade at the 2020 NBA Champions even when the opposition is without their marquee player, Zion Williamson.

To bring everyone on the same page, Zion has not stepped on court for the Pelicans even for 1-game in the entire 2021-22 season. However, he has been cleared to start his 1-on-1 gym sessions. Despite which, the Pelicans have been able to crawl their way into the post-season berth. And it has surely made Jay Williams firmly believe in their calibre of beating the LeBron James’ Lakers.
What was opinionated by Jay Williams on Lakers vs Pelicans play-in scenario?

Former second overall pick turned basketball analyst Jay Williams recently decided to throw some shade at LeBron James and his Lakers in a recent episode of ESPN’s Get Up.
“I don’t think Zion Williamson’s gonna play this year,” Williams said. “I would not rush him back. I think long term for Zion, that’s how I look at him, what’s in the best interest for him long term or not.”
Now talking about the Lakers vs Pelicans potential clash, Williams doesn’t mind if the New Orleans Pelicans are actually fighting for a spot in the playoffs. This is majorly because, Jay Williams believes that New Orleans doesn’t even need Zion to beat LeBron and the Lakers.

“But here’s the thing,” Williams said. “I still think the Pelicans, in a play-in scenario, could beat the Los Angeles Lakers without Zion. We are talking about the Lakers not making the Playoffs depending upon when AD comes back, if he’s coming back, Wendy. I don’t know what the hell is going on with that. We’re all of a sudden expecting the Lakers just to turn it on down the stretch? I know LeBron James can turn it on. I don’t know if everybody else can turn it on around him to beat the Pelicans.”

Given that the play-in is bound to commence from April 12th, the LA Lakers are desperately waiting for Anthony Davis to return in order to support LeBron James, will the Pelicans be able to upset, the previously regarded championship favorites? Surely Jay Williams, is one to believe the same.
