Nike had an interest in signing a deal with the young star who had been representing them for four years at that point. But they were skeptical over the fact that Curry was in and out of the injury list quite often due to his weak ankles. They also did not want to rely on his popularity either.

Based on these reasons, the brand had offered Steph a sponsorship just to be safe in case things went south with the player. Of course, after years of using Nike, Curry would have been waiting to sign the papers but Nike made a blunder on their end. In a professional setting, respect for the partner is of utmost importance which Curry had not received from Nike. They had reused an old presentation of a future teammate of his, Kevin Durant, and did not even change the name.
