With his on-court performance, he has managed to bring many big titles in his NBA career he was a two-time league champion, NBA’s final MVP and there is no doubt that he will be placed on the list of NBA hall of fame.
Even being so much popular in the world of sports, Kevin Durant has been one of the most highly eligible bachelors in the NBA. But back in 2014, it was not the case as he was experiencing one of the best times on the court and off the court. KD won his first NBA MVP that year with so much good going in his life he announced his engagement with then-WNBA player Monica Wright which didn’t last long as they both mutually decided to call off their relationship.
Here’s what were the reason for the end of Kevin Durant’s engagement with WNBA player Monica Wright.
Just after a few months of engagement, the couple decided to end their relationship. But later in an article written & published by GQ, it was clarified that it was Kevin Durant who initiated to end his engagement with the Minnesota Lynx guard as he didn’t give her the right love she deserved.
Here’s what was written in the articles: “I had a fiancée, but…I really didn’t know how to, like, love her, you know what I’m saying? We just went our separate ways.” Monica Wright, WNBA player, something like a high school sweetheart. One night Kevin got so full of feelings he just up and proposed to her. “We was just hanging out, chilling. And I felt the energy. I felt, I need to do this right now. And I just did it. I was like…We’re engaged right now? We’re about to get married? So I was just like, cool! I love this girl. But I didn’t love her the right way.”
In an interview with Risen Magazine, even Monica Wright opened up about how things were not going right in her relationship with KD.
“Yeah, in my last relationship [with Durant], I had to make a decision about compromising myself as a woman. I had to make a decision to leave a relationship, which a lot of people thought I was crazy to leave. There was a lot of criticism over it. But I think God had my back in it. Because I hold to what I know to be true, that is what God will reward instead of what people on the earth think is a good catch.”
“I was engaged last year and it kind of changed that relationship big time because I was going in a direction that unfortunately a lot of people aren’t willing to sacrifice their lifestyle for.”
