“I’m unimpressed, we need you to trim down” Shannon Sharpe lashes out at Zion Williamson for being overweight in viral dunk video
Shannon Sharpe and Zion Williamson
Shannon Sharpe was having none of Zion Williamson’s comeback tales after a video of the player making a 360 dunk during his recovery period came out. Zion making the loud massive dunk sparked discussions of his comeback in the New Orleans Pelicans squad but it wasn’t very conclusive, and in fact according to Sharpe it wasn’t even impressive.
It’s as if making 360 degree dunks is something an injured player in recovery should be making every day, and to top that, the player mustn’t even be overweight while they’re in their recovery phase. Shannon isn’t having any of Zion’s praise till the time he checks all the boxes in the analyst’s eyes.
Shannon Sharpe hasn’t really been a fan of Zion Williamson since a really long time, and his dislike of the player has specifically increased during the latter’s layoff caused by an injury. The New Orleans Pelicans haven’t really suffered a lot since the onset of CJ McCollum in the squad, but Zion’s lack of team spirit shown and constant pushing of comeback deadlines has caused the fans to despise him to some extent.
The doubt in the people’s heads was decreased to some extent when a video of Zion making a 360 dunk was released, but for Shannon, apparently even that wasn’t enough. Zion now has to step his game up in order to impress Shannon Sharpe and many other people like him.
Let us take a closer look at what Sharpe had to say in regards to Zion’s dunk and what he needed to do in order to impress him as Sharpe was in conversation with one other than the main man, the main critic, Skip Bayless.
Shannon Sharpe unimpressed by Zion Williamson’s 360 dunk, says it is nothing worth the hype
Shannon Sharpe had multiple things in order to target Zion Williamson for being the man that he is right now, injured, and in recovery. A video showed Williamson making a 360 dunk in practice which sparked comeback rumours and people showered the player with heaps of praises, but Sharpe was having none of the sweet conversation, he was brutally honest in his opinions which weren’t at all in the favour of what people were positively saying about Zion.
He felt that there were multiple things Zion should correct about himself before even trying to get back in the squad, it seemed as if Shannon found it disrespectful on Zion’s part.

Shannon Sharpe pointed out that Zion Williamson is a 6 foot 6 NBA Athlete, who is expected to make such dunks, and therefore it is nothing that should excite people or rather it isn’t anything they should hype up. Sharpe also pointed out that Zion was overweight and he needed to trim his weight down before coming back into the league, without which he wouldn’t be able to achieve much.
In reaction to Zion dunking before the New Orleans Pelicans’ play-in win against the San Atonio Spurs which has brought them a step closer to the Play-offs, Shannon said, “I’m unimpressed by this. He’s a 6’6″ NBA basketball player, he should be able to dunk. That’s like saying: ‘oh man, you see that catch Cooper Kupp made?'”
After pelicans’ victory against the San Antonio Spurs, they will now face the LA Clippers, which will be an interesting matchup and deciding factor in seeing if the Pelicans will be able to get into the playoffs or not. With Zion currently ruled out indefinitely, there could be a possibility that the player gets back on court with his teammates during the playoffs, which will make the squad a one tough to beat.
Let us now take a closer look at the reactions people on twitter had to Shannon’s take on Williamson.
