NBA insider warns Memphis fans on Luka Doncic trade-like meltdown with Ja Morant: “Nico Harrison disease spreading”
Insider information warned Memphis Grizzlies fans of a potential Luka Doncic-like trade in the future for Ja Morant.

Fans warned of Luka Doncic-esque trade possibility for Ja Morant
Ja Morant has been the face of the Memphis Grizzlies since he was drafted second overall in 2019. However, despite his star status, whispers around the league suggest that the Grizzlies might consider moving on from their franchise player if things don’t go as planned in the postseason. This speculation comes in the wake of the shocking Luka Doncic trade during the NBA trade deadline this year.
According to the Ringer’s NBA insider Howard Beck, an unnamed league executive suggested that Ja Morant could be the next major star on the trade block. On The Ringer’s Real Ones podcast, Beck revealed that some league insiders believe Memphis could explore moving Morant if the team fails to make a deep playoff run.
While the notion may seem far-fetched, the Luka Doncic trade by Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has proven one thing – in the words of Kevin Garnett “anything is possible.”
I’m constantly checking in with executives around trade deadline about like… you are always on the lookout for who’s the next wave of stars that are going to get dealt, right?… Somebody out of the blue said, keep an eye on Ja [Morant] this summer… I’m just saying it’s one of those things I’m just kind of keeping an eye on if they were to flame out early.

The idea of Memphis even considering a trade for Morant seems unlikely on the surface. He’s been the team’s driving force, both on and off the court, leading the Grizzlies to playoff success and establishing them as a Western Conference powerhouse. However, his recent issues may be a cause of concern for the Memphis front office.
While Ja Morant remains one of the league’s most dynamic guards, availability has become a significant issue. Over the past two seasons, he has played just 41 games, plagued by both injuries and off-court controversies. The 25-year-old has never played more than 63 games in a single season. He has also faced disciplinary action from the NBA, including a 25-game suspension last season due to multiple incidents involving firearms on social media.
Fans left stunned by Ja Morant’s Luka Doncic-esque trade rumors
NBA fans, particularly in Memphis, were taken aback by the mere suggestion that Ja Morant could be on the trading block. After all, franchise players aren’t usually dealt unless there’s significant unrest behind the scenes. However, after seeing the Mavericks part ways with Luka Doncic due to internal friction, nothing seems impossible anymore.

I’d say that this is a crazy thought but Luka just got moved out of nowhere during the season yeah, what do I know? 😭😂

They’re not using him right. It’s clear they plan on backdooring him this summer, same thing the Mavericks did with Luka. They’re not trusting him to lead the offense anymore pic.twitter.com/t4ZcfDUt5M

Zero chance of the Grizzlies moving Ja Morant… unless… Nico Harrison becomes their GM.

For Memphis, their cap space isn’t necessarily the issue. The team is well below the luxury tax, and Morant, alongside Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., forms one of the most promising young cores in the league. However, front offices in the modern NBA are hyper-focused on building rosters geared towards immediate success.
Despite these concerns, when Ja Morant is on the floor, he remains an elite talent. This season, he is averaging 20.7 points and 7.4 assists in 32 starts, making him as valuable to Memphis as any other talent that might slot into that position.
If the Grizzlies believe Morant’s absences outweigh his impact, they could at least explore their options. The Grizzlies currently sit near the top of the Western Conference standings, and they would certainly look to capitalize on their potential because championship windows are never open for too long.
