Is Jordan Poole in the same league as Allen Iverson after 4 season
Allen Iverson and Jordan Poole
Jordan Poole has been looking after most of the Golden State Warriors offense after Stephen Curry partially dislocated his shoulder. In his last 8 games, Poole has been averaging 26.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds for the Warriors. In the season when Klay Thompson has been struggling to get his rhythm back, a lot of offensive responsibility falls on the young star’s shoulders. The young star has been constantly compared to Allen Iverson for his killer moves.
Poole signed a max extension with the Warriors at the start of the season, after he played a crucial role in the Warriors’ 4th championship in 8 years. But perhaps the biggest compliment for Poole came when some of the fans and NBA analysts started to compare his skill set to former Philadelphia 76ers great Allen Iverson. Iverson is one of the greatest players to play the game of basketball and was included in NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
If anything apart from being an unstoppable scorer Iverson was famous and known for, was his killer crossover. Not one NBA fan can forget the time, rookie Iverson left Michael Jordan on an island, the first time they faced each other. Iverson’s crossovers are still the best highlights in the game. His crossover against Tyronn Lue and then stepping over the fallen Clippers coach are among the most historic moments in the league.
A comparison of talent and stats between Allen Iverson
Before even comparing Poole to Iverson there are a lot of things to unpack and perhaps the first should be the stature. As many know, the Hall of Famer was known as “The Answer” one of the reasons being, when Allen was drafted he was the answer to all 76ers problems. Poole, though not on Iverson’s level right now, has the potential to become the Warriors’ primary offensive arsenal.
Just like the former All-Star, Poole has one of the smoothest handles in the league right now. He can leave the best perimeter defenders guessing where he goes next, he is that good. Every game, Poole plays he makes sure he gives fans highlights to remember by. Crossover, spin moves, smooth jump shots, Poole has everything to immitate Iverson, if not better.
After 4 seasons in the league, Iverson averaged 24.9 points in 40 minutes per game for the 76ers. Poole on the other hand has been averaging 14.7 points in 25 minutes. Iverson was the primary offensive arsenal for the 76ers since the day he was drafted, and Poole has been largely overshadowed by Curry’s greatness. However, the young star has been performing at a high level, and would eventually take on larger assignments.
