“I was like, ‘Man, he’s the worst rotation player in the league’” JJ Redick reveals his initial doubts over former DPOY Draymond Green
Draymond Green
Former NBA player JJ Redick talked about his initial doubts about Draymond Green and how his doubts were proved wrong. During a discussion with Kevin Durant, on Thursday’s episode of “The Old Man and The Three”, JJ Redick said that he once thought that Draymond is the worst rotation player in the league.
To those who are not aware, the former DPOY was one of the anchors of the Golden State warrior’s dynasty, along with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant. He is known for his selfless and smart plays of basketball and also for his défense.
JJ Redick initially thought Draymond Green was the worst rotation players in the NBA
JJ Redick said, “Draymond was in his second season with the warriors and I was in my first with the clippers, we were playing them late In the season and I remember thinking to myself what does he do…. Back then you had to be great at one thing… man he’s the worst rotation player in the NBA”.
However, JJ later admitted that he was later proved wrong by Draymond. And he even further said that Draymond became great through his intellect and his experience but now he is one of the smartest basketball players ever.
Even Kevin Durant mentioned that Draymond has brought about a change in basketball by being one of the first person who could guard all five and take the passing burden out of a point guard and if required shoot and hit a three.
Draymond Green is considered the defensive anchor of one of the best teams in the NBA. And he even went on to win the Defensive Player of the year award, in the 2016-17 season. In the current season, he averages only around 7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7 assists per game.
But whenever, he is on the floor, he is considered a threat on par with his teammates- Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, due to his ability to pass, find the open man, and his ability to space the floor. He had his fingerprints all over the five seasons where the warriors went to the NBA finals.
Whenever he is on the court, Green is sure to make an impact on the game, whether it is due to his défense or due to his high basketball IQ. He dictates the pace and scoring of the game for his team and creates open spaces for his shooters like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
