The Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc across the globe. Innumerable people lost their lives and everything from elections to sports was drastically affected by the deadly disease. With vaccines coming into play, the number of fatalities has thankfully gone down but the pandemic is still far from over.

Khem Birch, who plays for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA recently informed that he, along with his wife and daughter had tested positive for Covid-19 in late September. Birch claimed that he lost his sense of smell and felt fatigued while he was infected.

Birch claimed that his wife also had similar symptoms while their daughter was asymptomatic. Talking about the importance of getting vaccinated which probably saved him and his wife from any serious symptoms, Birch added, “thank God we are vaccinated, or it probably would have been worse.”

Birch, who plays as the starting center for the Raptors has been in the form of his life since he was roped in by the franchise midway through last season. In 19 games with them, Birch averaged career-highs of 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

His performances have been incredible and who knows how far back the Covid infection would have pushed him if he hadn’t got vaccinated. It would be fair to say that many top athletes who have refused to get vaccinated can draw inspiration from Birch’s experience.
