Steve Ballmer, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers has become the richest sports team proprietor in the world. Ballmer acquired the Clippers in 2014 for $2 billion (US) and now they are worth $3.3 billion (US) as of the latest season. Ballmer has now found his way up among the top businessmen of the world like Mukesh Ambani, Francis Pinault, and Daniel Gilbert

The Clippers owner worked under Microsoft since 1980 and bought the NBA franchise as soon as he retired. One of his biggest goals is to lift American citizens out of poverty while donating $2 billion for the same case. Ballmer was ironically an MBA dropout who built his empire by himself to lead him to where he is now.

The Los Angeles Clippers became one of the biggest playoff surprises after reaching the Eastern Conference finals last season. Unfortunately, the team would end up losing to the Phoenix Suns (4-2). Many believe that losing Kawhi Leonard after he tore his ACL during game 4 of the WC Semifinals. The Claw was said to be seated out 6-9 months and is yet to make his return to the court.

But the injuries did not stop with Leonard, the Clippers were top four in the Western Conference before Paul George was sidelined due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament. George only appeared for 30 games averaging 24.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game this season. The Clippers are currently 8th in the West headed to the play-in tournament for a spot in the playoffs. George also returned to the team on March 30th.

Los Angeles Clippers are on their way to find a new home

As we all know, the Los Angeles Clippers have shared a home court with their rival the Los Angeles Lakers for over 20 years. Steve Ballmer who is currently listed number one on the Forbes top sports team owners list is worth $91.4 billion. He was initially okay with sharing a court with their rivals but felt the Clippers needed their own identity.

“We needed to say, ‘We’re our own guys. We don’t play in the same place as the other guys. We’re going to have our own identity,” said Ballmer. He introduced the world to his plans on giving the Clippers their own arena as soon as the 2024-25 season. The team will shift home grounds from the Staples Center to Intuit Dome which costs the owner $2 billion or more which is roughly around the same amount he purchased the team for.
