LeBron James improves position in another all-time NBA list as Lakers’ late surge not enough to beat Grizzlies

LeBron James’ 35 point night couldn’t help the Los Angeles Lakers. Their 4-game winning streak comes to an end as they lose to the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Sunday night. The Grizzlies beat the Lakers 127-119, for their 9th straight victory.
This Lakers loss again confirms the pattern for the Lakers this season. The last four victories for the Lakers have been against Portland, Minnesota, Sacramento, and Atlanta, all .500 or below teams. The Lakers have struggled to beat good teams this season.

LeBron James continues his MVP-like campaign as he scored 35 points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed nine rebounds. But the flipside to this is that he was -30 for the game, worst in the lineup. Russell Westbrook had another zero turnover game but wasn’t productive. He scored just six points. He also had six assists and seven rebounds in the game. Malik Monk who has been on fire lately went cold as he had only seven points.
The Lakers got good contributions from the bench. Wayne Ellington and Austin Reaves scored 16 points each while Talen Horton Tucker added 13 points. Even though the Lakers had fewer turnovers in the game than the Grizzlies, they gave more points. The Lakers gave 19 points off 12 turnovers while the Grizzlies gave only 11 points off their 14 turnovers.

LeBron James now has 7th most assists in the NBA
LeBron James had nine assists in the game. With his seventh assist in the game, LeBron moved up by on the ladder of ‘Most assists in NBA history’. LeBron now has 9,888 assists in the NBA, the 7th most in the NBA. He took over Oscar Robertson who had 9,887 assists in his career.
John Stockton has the most assists in NBA history by far with 15,806 assists, 3,000 more than the player with 2nd most assists, Jason Kidd (12,091). The list is then followed by Chris Paul with 10,665 assists (most assists in the NBA among active players), Steve Nash with 10,335 assists, Mark Jackson with 10,334 assists, Magic Johnson with 10,141 assists, and now LeBron James with 9,888.
