Hubie Brown used the rule changes as the reasoning behind his statement and hearing the coach out many even agree with him. Hubie Brown in the media interview intellectually started his rally off with the rule changes and how they forced players to change their game style on both ends from offensive to defensive. Further jumping straight into the 80’s-90’s era and comparing it to the modern-era Brown quoted: “You know what I said to the guys, if you don’t believe what it was like in the ’70s and ’80s, would you please watch the documentary on the Detroit bad guys. And nobody got thrown out of those games and you saw guys flying into the stands. I mean today, on one hit, you would be suspended for like a month here. And that’s why it’s hysterical when these guys are b***hing about going to the rim. They don’t know what it was like to go to the rim in the ’70s and ’80s because you may not get up again.”

Hubie Brown was very right when he said that, as even today the league is soft compared to what it was decades ago when players like Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan played. Brown also mentioned the hand-check rule which is no longer allowed in the league and how that can provide more potential to offensive threats like Michael Jordan who played with that rule and still are regarded as one of the greatest scorers ever.
