“Meet the NEW LeBron James” Rockets’ Jalen Green sends NBA fans down memory lane with an iconic chase-down block
Jalen Green
Once again the Houston Rockets have found themselves at the bottom of the barrel not being able to compete even for the play-in tournament. The roster of this team has the skill and potential just like any other budding group in the league. But their lack of experience or veteran presence really shows. Eric Gordon is their only remaining mentoring figure but to what extent will he be able to help out?
Besides the 33-year old veteran who has been loyal to the Houston Rockets for the last six seasons inclusive of the 2021-22 season, the team consists of Christian Wood, who has been a consistent contributor towards the Rockets’ offensive and rebounding. Kevin Porter Jr. has also been a stable offensive option scoring 13.6 points on 39.6% shooting per night. But it is the rookie Jalen Green who brings hope to the future of this Rocket’s roster.
Houston Rockets vs Utah Jazz Game Recap
The Utah Jazz had won the tip-off but it was the Houston Rockets who were able to sink the first numbers on the board for the night. The Rockets had a close lead during the first few minutes of the game but the Jazz began to overpower them on offense. The Jazz maintained a good lead throughout the game by at least 10 points until efforts made by Wood and Green helped the Rockets bring the game to a tie at the end of the fourth quarter.
After a nail-biting start in overtime, the Jazz’s shooting and paint scoring gave them the upper hand defeating the Rockets 127-132. The Jazz shot 54.3% from the field making 17 of 24 free-throw attempts. They managed to score a whopping 68 points within the paint with all credits going to Rudy Gobert’s excellent works as well. He had 27 points and 17 rebounds followed by 37 points and 10 assists from Donovan Mitchell. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley both had great shooting nights.
For the Rockets, two of their players concluded with a double-double as Christian Wood had 24 points and 10 rebounds including a game-tying shot from three at the buzzer. Kevin Porter Jr. had incredible looks while passing finishing the game with 12 assists along with 16 points. Kenyon Martin Jr. scored a season-high of 20 points as well. As a team, they shot better from beyond the arc with 21 made three-pointers.
Jalen Green gets off with a monstrous chase-down block
Whatever one might say about the Houston Rockets, Jalen Green is someone their fans can rely on in the future. As sad as the dunk contest may have looked for the 20-year old rookie, his dominance on the court has only just begun and it is incredible to see. Against the Jazz, he had many good looks to score and always found his way past the defenders. Green had made Rudy Gobert’s defense look like he was wearing out. Besides that, watch this beautiful chase-down block he made which many believe may have been a replication of LeBron James.
Fans were also excited to see such a display of power as they were taken aback when the King made such blocks
The young guard had 27 points shooting 11 of 16 attempts from the field. He also had 2 rebounds and 4 assists to go with it. He is a big booster on the Rockets’ offense as he averages 15 points with 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 39.6% shooting. Although Green has not shown up in the top five leaders for the Rookie of the Year award, he is definitely a close sixth behind Josh Giddey, Franz Wagner, Scottie Barnes, and others. He has been much more consistent in his work with the team and will definitely rank higher by the end of the season.
