The NBA has been home to some of the biggest talents in the sports business. Besides that, it has to be one of the most energetic and electrifying leagues in existence. Being around for 75 years now, fans and associates of the league get heated in GOAT debates.
In recent times, the league has grown in the amount of talent one brings to the game. The number of records being broken by current players has increased with two all-time records being broken this season alone. Each time a new milestone is achieved it paves way for another player to enter the GOAT debate. The most commonly spoken-about players are Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.
Damian Lillard names his top four all-time players
Recently, Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers sat down with analyst Shannon Sharpe and discussed the league’s greatest players. Lillard named four players he thinks to fill up the NBA’s Mount Rushmore. He said, “NBA players, I’m gonna go with MJ, LeBron, Kobe and I’m gonna say Magic.” Dame seemingly put a lot of thought into his fourth pick which he felt Magic Johnson rightfully deserved.
Lillard has always been extremely fair in his takes on basketball-related debates. Even though Johnson did not score as much as the other players he still impacted the game in a way or two. Drafted in 1979, Magic was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Lakers during a time when the NBA suffered to sell its brand.
He was one of the most exciting players to watch at that time with his flashy passing and insane playmaking ability. Johnson averaged a double-double for 9 seasons straight and finished his career with 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 11.2 assists per game on 52% shooting.
Damian Lillard is out for the season as per Blazers’ injury report
The All-Star point guard only appeared for a total of 29 games this season. Initially, Lillard suffered to produce on the offensive end, unlike his usual self who would score at least 30 points in a consistent fashion. He was officially ruled out on December 30th, 2021 and he has not played any game since. In January 2022, the player underwent surgery after being diagnosed with lower abdominal tendinopathy.
The Blazer averaged 24 points along with 7.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game this season in the games that he has appeared. He also shot 40.2% from the field, 32.4% from the three-point range, and 87.8% from the free-throw line. Portland since then has lost CJ McCollum, Robert Covington, and Larry Nance Jr. moving into rebuild mode. They currently sit in 12th place in the Western Conference looking for a lottery pick.
