We have all had moments when we imagine scenarios of ourselves being known as the best in a particular field or just simply very successful. In the world of sports, young athletes always dream of becoming recognized by the world saying that they wish to be the next big thing or the next greatest of all time.

To get to that level of greatness requires a lot of focus, determination, and an extremely hard-working mindset. Such athletes are never born on a silver platter as diamonds are made in the rough. But always bear in mind that there are always going to be obstacles along the way meant to only test your will and strengthen your knowledge on where you need to improve.

When you think of successful sports stars, one of the first people you think of is probably Michael Jordan who arguably has the most impressive resume in the sports of field sports. This man single-handedly sculpted a future for the sport of basketball and inspired many players of today.

During his time in the NBA, Jordan was one of the most electrifying freaks of nature that put on impressive performances on a nightly basis. Seriously, we are talking about a man who has over 170 forty-point games, five MVP awards, and six titles that included two three-peats with the Chicago Bulls.

While many 12-year olds are busy trying to understand how to work the triangular offense, at the same age MJ was thinking about a whole other sport. This is the same man that retired halfway through his NBA career to join a minor league baseball team to fulfill his late father’s dream of him becoming a great baseball player.

By the end of his career, Jordan has achieved numbers that any other player would have taken at least 20 seasons to reach. He retired in 2003 for the third and final time averaging a career with a solid 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.

With so much success and recognition under his name, it was never easy for Jordan to play at a high consistently every night. But his mentality to be above the rest of his league did not stop him and his competitive nature added more fuel to his fire.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over, and over, and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

These words were said in an Air Jordan commercial that was released many years ago. This commercial simply explains that failure is part of learning and learning heightens your intelligence which will eventually bring you success.
