“Mother****r wouldn’t shake my hand”: Charles Oakley reveals incident with James Dolan which triggered LeBron James to not join Knicks

LeBron James has always been the player every team wants on their board as he is one of the greatest ever to step on the court. New York Knicks had always been in the run for getting LeBron James on the roster but has never succeeded as the King always had a decision made in his mind which was only known by Charles Oakley.

Recently, in a book launched by Charles Oakley, “The Last Enforcer” the story behind the decision was revealed. In the book, Charles mentioned how he was introduced to James Dolan by William Wesley (Worldwide Wes) in New Orleans during the 2014 All-Star weekend. Oakley wrote how he was hanging with LeBron James and his agent Rich Paul when he was introduced to James Dolan and had his hand left hanging since James Dolan refused to shake it.

Somewhere Charles knew it that James Dolan won’t really care much for him as he wasn’t riding on the Knicks board under his ownership but was critical for them. Charles in his book referring to this incident wrote: “‘You would have thought I did something to his wife. Sh**, Latrell Sprewell, who played five seasons with the Knicks, cursed at Dolan in front of Dolan’s wife when he returned to face the Knicks back in 2003, and they still became friends. I didn’t do anything to this man. What did I ever say that was so bad that he would ignore me like that? I wondered. Man, I wanted to hit him in the head.’”

When the incident was shared with LeBron James it trigged him and he made a powerful statement in response to it as Oakley in his book quotes: “I walked back to LeBron and said, ‘This mother****er (Dolan) wouldn’t shake my hand.’ All LeBron said was: ‘This is why I’m never going to New York.'”

LeBron James straight away said that the only reason holding him back from joining New York Knicks was the behavior of their owner James Dolan. It isn’t just the King James who the New York Knicks have missed on. They also have failed in acquiring free agents like Damian Lillard, De’Andre Jordan, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the recent years. The team would have been a sure contender if they even managed to get half of the agents they got their hands washed on. Due to James Dolan they struggle at the bottom and anytime soon can initiate a rebuild since after years last season they made it to the playoffs. But are again back and struggling as the team still searches for a veteran leader.
