NBA faces heat for Snub of All Snubs as Enes Kanter Freedom receives ‘zero’ All-Star Fan Votes
Enes Kanter Freedom
Enes Kanter Freedom would have been a little disappointed at seeing the final NBA All-Star vote counts released this past Thursday. Every year, there are conversations about the snubs of the year for those who deserved but did not become an All-Star. Freedom, the backup center for the Boston Celtics, then has to be the snub of all snubs by the NBA.
Surely, Enes Kanter Freedom is not an All-Star level player in the league (at least not yet and not in this season), considering his performance and his role with the team. But the snub that Freedom faced was the biggest among all those who did not or are not going to make the All-Star game. In Freedom’s case, it was not about not making the All-Star game or getting fewer votes. It was about Freedom getting zero All-Star votes according to the NBA’s database.

NBA is a league that is globally recognized. NBA has the most Instagram followers, most Twitter followers, and the most Youtube subscribers. There are close to Two billion basketball fans in the world and for them, NBA is the premier competition for them to watch and/or aspire to be a part of.
When a fan searched for Enes Kanter Freedom’s total All-Star votes during the duration open for voting, it showed zero votes. Now, in a season, there are only ~450 NBA players playing at a time and all of those are eligible for the All-Star votings. So, with millions of fans and followers of the league, it is especially odd and hard to swallow the fact that any player can end the All-Star tally with zero votes. Even, some of the most under-the-radar players received some votes, but no one got zero.

Did NBA actually snub Enes Kanter Freedom?
The speculations then began as to whether it is a move by the NBA to retaliate against his calling out of the NBA or a genuine glitch. Freedom has been very vocal about Human Rights violations in China of late. He has also called out NBA for expanding business in China. He also called out Nike for making money off the exploitation of the Uyghur Muslims.
The next day, however, NBA updated its database and it removed Enes Kanter Freedom’s name altogether from the list. Later, Freedom’s name was added back with correct figures. Freedom’s name was shown to have received 8,384 total All-Star fan votes. Larry Brown, NBA’s spokesman clarified that the issue was due to a ‘technical error’ as Enes changed his last name from ‘Kanter’ to ‘Freedom’ recently.
