17-year-old Nagpur cager Shomira Bidaye selected for Basketball Without Borders Asia camp in Australia

They have also established a name all around the world reaching out to young children aspiring to make it big one day.

Shomira Bidaye to represent India in the Basketball Without Borders Asia camp

Shomira Bidaye, a 16-year old hailing from Nagpur, India, got the opportunity to represent the country in the Junior NBA tryouts and got selected to study in the United States. The young baller will soon begin her journey with her new teammates at the Woodside Priory School, Portola Valley, California in 2023. Prior to her big break, Shomira practiced at the Shivagi Nagar Gymkhana courts in her hometown. She will also be participating in the upcoming August 2022 Basketball Without Borders Asia, to be held in Australia.

She made her first international appearance representing India in the Jr. NBA tournament at Orlando and also participated in a NBA Academy India Women’s Program Training Camp shortly after. As big of an accomplishment it may be for her country, she is the tenth Indian girl to make into the limelight. Siya Dheodar was the latest before Bidaye to get selected to study and compete in Basketball tournaments in the US. They both happen to be teammates from the same group at Shivagi Nagar.

NBA makes moves to better the communities around them

The Jr. NBA has been in existence for quite some time now giving budding basketball players a boost to elevate their career in the sport. The project’s motive is to help young teenager develop their skillset enough to make it to bigger stages. They encourage both girls and boys to participate in the program.

Besides skill development, they also help teach life lessons and empower the youngsters of the world to live better lives. They coach the participants using a curriculum that is categorized based on the playing level of the student. Kids are taught dribbling and shooting techniques including drills used to improve basic handling of the ball.
