2xNBA MVP Nikola Jokic can BAG NBA’s first $400 million+ deal
Will Nikola Jokic ink the first-ever $400 million contract?
Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic is undoubtedly one of the best players on the planet. He recently led the Denver Nuggets to a championship hunt. He really is a one-of-one player with a bag deeper than what anybody can expect. He isn’t just a great scorer but also one of the best playmakers we will ever see. But recently, Nikola Jokic lost one of his stat to Jaylen Brown. As the Boston Celtics guard replaced the Joker by signing the biggest and richest NBA contract ever.
Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics recently agreed on a $304 million supermax contract extension of five years. The deal has guaranteed him generational wealth and now he’s the highest-paid player ever in the league’s history. But it won’t take long for Nikola Jokic to retain his spot. As Kurt Helin of NBC Sports recently revealed 5 players who can have contracts bigger than Brown’s.
Topping that list was Nikola Jokic. The analyst believes he can sign the first ever $400 million+ contract during the 2026 summer. Helin discussing the potential supermax extension wrote: “Nikola Jokic is arguably the best player walking the face of the earth right now — and the best hooper singing with his shirt off — and he just signed a contract extension worth $274 million before the start of last season.”
Further, talking about Jokic signing a $400 million+ deal wrote, “However, thanks to his player option at the end of it, by the summer of 2026 he could sign the NBA’s first $400 million contract as an extension of his current deal, specifically five years at $404 million. Jokic could get that money whether he wins another MVP or title or not because he will have 10 years of service and be eligible regardless.”
Who’ll actually be the first player ever to ink a $400 million contract: Nikola Jokic or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signed a $179.3 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season. It doesn’t have a player option and will end with him being a Unrestricted Free Agent in 2027. So his new contract will come in from there or he can get it extended during the last year of his deal. According to CBS Sports, it will be him who’ll bag a $400 million contract first.
As in 2027, he’ll be in his prime, balling and ready to lead teams. But all of that doesn’t take anything away from Nikola Jokic. As he too is a real baller and nobody would mind bringing him on board for some big money.
He’s booked under contract till the 27-28 season with a player option. And, to know who’ll be the first one to ink such a big number will have to wait. As both the stars are eligible and capable of inking such big deals.
