Hunter Mahan talks about Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is a legend in mostly any environment that always thrives for superiority. The Chicago Bulls legend ruled the Basketball world, making sure he inspired a series of upcoming superstars. It is also no secret that Jordan is one of the most competitive athletes in the history of sports Fans have heard many anecdotes to back it up. Talking about golf, PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan was a guest on the recent episode of the “Subpar” podcast. Wherein he told the story of playing with MJ during the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla.
The pro golfer revealed that it felt surreal to be in the presence of the Chicago Bulls superstar. He said, “It’s so surreal when he’s around. He kind of sucks the air out of the room. You kind of have to impress him, right? How many opportunities do you have to do that?” Mahan is also a well-known personality on the golf course, winning 6 PGA tours in his career.
Mahan also added the story of playing under “His Airness” on international duty. Jordan was the honorary captain at the 2009 Presidents Cup, and during the match between Mahan was up against Colombian Golfer Camilo Villegas, MJ gave some earful to his US teammate. Mahan conceded a short putt early in the match, which upset Jordan. He proceeded to shout at him and gave him an intense pep talk, filling up the fighting spirit in him
“You know, you are kind of nice at that point, so I gave him a putt,” Mahan said. “I think I was one down through three or something. So I was walking off, and MJ just looks at me, like intense, like super intense, like he was playing or something. And he’s like, ‘Don’t give him that s**t! Don’t give him that s**t!’ And slapped me on the ass.”
Well, the prep talk did a miracle and Mahan defeated Villegas in the end. The United States defeated the International Team 19.5 to 14.5. Losing is not an option for Mj and his team.
Michael Jordan – an assassin on every front
NBA legend Michael Jordan is known for his crazy borderline-obsessive competitiveness. Taunted as the GOAT in the NBA, MJ won 6 NBA titles in 6 Finals appearances. Also, he was Finals MVP in all of those 6 Championship runs, indicating his dominance on the floor. His Bulls team had 2 three-peats, never matched by any superteam yet.

It’s not only about winning for Michael, but he has a clear goal of asserting authority in the league. As he remained the top scorer in the league for 10 different seasons, won 5 regular season MVP awards, and was in 9 defensive 1st team selections – the records hard to beat. Jordan also holds the record of averaging 30+ points in regular season games.
Outside NBA too Jordan had to be the best in the sport he is playing. MJ and Anderson became friends when the actor caught the NBA superstar’s attention during a trip to the Bahamas. Anderson had custom Jumpman dominoes and they used them to play. The comedian won their game, but Jordan ignored him for the rest of the trip – reason, well you all have guessed it right.
