LeBron James is sometimes discredited for the amount of work he puts into his craft. The player has been able to win championships on three different franchises which is a career feature like no other. His presence is like an automatic launch pad to the NBA Finals.
A former teammate of his by the name of Shaquille O’Neal seems to have a difference in opinion with the NBA. As we all might be aware of, Derrick Rose won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player of the Year Award in 2011 becoming the youngest ever to bestowed upon such a prestigious title.
Shaq said, “I may be biased, but I’ve seen Mike, Dominique, Magic, Bird, David Robinson, Ewing. They brought something unique. Derrick Rose? Great player, but lay something on me I’m not expecting.” It is obvious the legend does not believe Rose was worth it, especially since the other names were all former MVPs.
Was Derrick Rose deserving of the 2011 MVP?
It all depends on a matter of perspective. In 2011, Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP ever earning 113 first place votes out of the 121 that were given by league officials. He averaged a solid 25 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game that season leading the Chicago Bulls ECF against the Miami Heat.
That year was when LeBron James made his move to Miami and instantly went into title contention. The Heat were able to beat the Bulls in five games advancing to the NBA Finals. Bron was managed to put up better numbers as well and skyrocket the Heat’s title chances by a mile.
He averaged 26.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7 assists per game. Impressive, yet not good enough for the title. LeBron James only received 4 first place votes and finished third in the ranking behind Dwight Howard. Bron could have been frowned upon for his “superteam” move that year which affected his chances of winning MVP.
