LeBron James is on pace to overtake Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time greatest scorer this season. He needs 261 points to break Abdul’s-record, which he has held since April 1984. During his playing career, Kareem was one of the most powerful forces in the NBA. Many would have assumed that after he retired, no NBA player would come close to breaking the many records he had established.

Jabbar has several MVP and All-Star accolades, as well as the most points in NBA history. He remains the all-time leading scorer in the league. Shannon Sharpe of Club Shay Shay questioned Johnson about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s reaction to being passed as the league’s all-time leading scorer. Johnson stated flatly, “I don’t think well. I think it’ll be a hard pill to swallow,” Johnson said. “I think he thought he was going to have it [the record] forever.”

Johnson also addressed the two Lakers legends’ lack of a bond. Kareem Adbul-Jabbar previously chastised LeBron James for sharing a COVID-19 meme and for not utilizing his influence to promote immunizations against the virus. Before the season began, James stated that he has no contact with Abdul-Jabbar. As of January 21, 2023, the King needs 261 more points to surpass Abdul-Jabbar.

LeBron James set his eyes on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s current all-time top scorer, after passing Karl Malone for second on the career regular-season points record. Abdul-Jabbar has held the lifetime points record since April 5, 1984, eight months before James was born, when he broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record. Now, he is just 261 points away from breaking Abdul-career Jabbar’s total of 38,387.

If LeBron James continues to ball out like he’s doing. He can break the record before the All-Star Weekend. So far into the season, he is averaging 29.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists. Being the All-Time leading scorer of the league will surely have LeBron James winning many GOAT debates now. But Bron never had any plans of doing so and is still hungry and chasing a championship.
