On Sept. 11, NFL player Aaron Rodgers went down on the field with an injury. He was playing his regular-season game for the Jets. It was later revealed that Rodgers had torn his Achilles. For a couple of days, Rodgers was silent on the issue. At his age, a torn Achilles could mean the end of his career. However, he did finally speak up on Sept. 14, mentioning that he had undergone surgery for his Achilles. He added that one of the first people he thought about after his injury was the late Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant has undergone a similar injury to Rodgers during the 2013 NBA season. At the time of injury, Bryant was roughly the same as Rodgers’ current age. This could have been what made Rodgers think about him instantly. According to Rodgers, as soon as he found out he had torn his Achilles, he looked into what Bryant had done when he was in the same situation. Rodgers added that during the night of his surgery, it was Bryant who was on his mind.

In fact, Rodgers has the same surgeon as Bryant. Opening about the connection, this is what Rodgers said, “I knew that Kobe [Bryant] had done his Achilles, so I looked into right away. I mean literally on the table Monday night, I thought about [Kobe]. I had seen ‘Muse’, but I had forgotten that he gotten surgery the next day.”

While some fans doubt Rodgers’ ability to return to the NFL field after surgery, he remains fairly optimistic. On Instagram, his post read, “I shall rise yet again.” Some do not share his optimism, however, considering the fact that he is quite old for an athlete. The road to recovery is quite long for an Achilles tear, and only time will tell if Rodgers’ can walk it.’

Rodgers was initially silent about his injury status. However, he updated his fans with an Instagram post on 14 Sept.

According to him, the surgery went well and he thanked all his fans for their love and support. His fans have flooded his social media comments, saying things like, “Get well soon Rodgers hope to see you play next season cause you still are my best QB” and “Get Well Soon My Guy!!”

Rodgers is hopeful of the surgery and wishes to return to the NFL before the regular season ends. He is currently part of the New York Jets and had attracted a huge crowd on Sept. 11 to watch him play. The final verdict on Rodgers’ retirement will only be given once he has completed his recovery. Until that, all there is to do, is wait.
