Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis were involved in a controversial incident during game 2 of the first round between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. The Kings took a 2-0 lead in the series with a 114-106 win as Sabonis led the way but got injured by Green in the process. However, Draymond has his version of the incident, which he is sticking to.

The incident happened in the second half when Green and Sabonis were contesting a rebound, and Sabonis fell over Green’s feet leading Green to stamp him in the chest. However, recent reports have suggested Green is requesting an X-ray on his ankle as he feels Sabonis grabbed it and forced him to land on him. Marc J. Spears Tweeted – “Warriors star Draymond Green asked for an X-ray on his right ankle after the Game 2 loss to the host Kings after feeling soreness.”

Video replays of the incident show Sabonis grabbing Draymond Green’s ankle. However, Green was assessed for a flagrant two and was ejected from the game. Reports from Sabonis’ X-rays show that he has avoided injury but will be re-evaluated, as per Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter. Green is no stranger to getting suspended from the playoffs, as he was out for one game for kicking LeBron James in the 2016 NBA Finals, and chances are he could get suspended again.

Sabonis finished the game despite getting kicked in the chest by Green and topped the Kings scoring with 24 points. Green was ejected with around 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter and was seen encouraging the Sacramento crowd to boo him while getting removed in typical Green fashion. The 4x NBA Champion is no stranger to playoff ejections and has previously mentioned that he dislikes the Sacramento Kings.

In his post-game interview, Green said, “My leg got grabbed second time in two nights… I gotta land my foot somewhere.” Draymond feels that Sabonis led him to step on him as he could not stretch his for further than that after Sabonis grabbed it. When asked about the reason he was given for his ejection, he said, “The explanation was I stamped too hard.” Sabonis was also assessed with a technical foul for grabbing his foot.

Green is a vital member of the Warriors collective in their turbulent season, averaging 8 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the regular season while being their defensive anchor. The Warriors will have to rely more on starting center Kevon Looney on the frontcourt if Green is forced to miss any time, and Jonathan Kuminga and JaMychal Green may also see increased playing time.
