“There is no way I’m letting you block me!” Adam Sandler had to literally beg Anthony Edwards whilst shooting ‘Hustle’ in 2022

Nobody likes to get dunked on, neither does one like to be blocked, its a morale breaker, just ask Adam Sandler how difficult Anthony Edwards was. Minnesota Timberwolves rookie looks like he has a bright future ahead of him, as we witnessed the 20-year-old make his cinematic debut in Hustle, with Adam Sandler. Anthony Edwards has shown bursts of his amazing potential, improving drastically from his rookie year in the NBA, however his debut on camera was not as straightforward as Sandler and Hernangomez told Whistle Sports about a story they had with Anthony Edwards while filming Hustle.
Anthony Edwards, regarded as the next big thing in NBA, slamming dunks on top of players, while getting blocked in ‘Hustle’. This season, he was a major part of the Wolves’ success getting them into the playoffs after over a decade of fighting. He averaged 21.3 points along with 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game shooting 44.1% from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc making 3 per game. Minnesota’s success was very short lived after going 2-4 against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round.

“There is no way I let you block me” Anthony Edwards refused to get blocked on camera in Adam Sandler’s movie ‘Hustle’
In 2022, Adam Sandler is all hands on deck with the premiere of his inspirational sports drama, ‘Hustle’ . Sandler leads as Stanley Sugerman, a down-on-his luck basketball scout for the Philadelphia 76ers who, while abroad discovers Bo Cruz, whose role is played by none other than Juancho Hernangómez , a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past. Sandler’s scout takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to America without his team’s approval. Against the odds, Stanley and Bo have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA.
The cast also featured numerous past and current NBA stars including Kenny Smith, Trae Young, Kyle Lowry, Anthony Edwards and Seth Curry, among others. Edwards portrays Kermet Wilts, a prominent NBA draught prospect. In Hustle, Kermet plays minds games with Bo Cruz played by Juancho Hernangomez our protagonist, and a prospect spotted on the streets of Spain by Stanley Sugarman played by Adam Sandler.
Anthony Edwards and Juancho Hernangomez received a lot of appreciation for their performances in major parts. Edwards, in particular, was praised for his performance as the antagonist to Hernangomez’s character. The trash that Edwards talks is savage, his delivery is just incredible, and it feels really real just watching these scenes. Adam Sandler narrated a hilarious story where Edawards refused to be blocked by Hernangomez.
“Anthony Edwards tried to dunk on me so hard. He almost broke the ball. I told Ant, ‘man I got to block you’ he said ‘there is no way I let you block me.’ “ That would certainly be on-brand for Edwards to refuse to be blocked, even for a movie scene. The Timberwolves’ star is a fierce competitor. It’s hard not to imagine Edwards getting fired up at being blocked by his old ‘Wolves teammate. Edwards may have a future in Hollywood, but the young star is now focused on his career. Aside from the Timberwolves’ Hernangomez and Edwards, ‘Hustle’ boasts appearances from a number of former NBA players.
Jokes aside, both Hernangomez and Edwards were awesome. While they may act like rivals in the movie, the two players are actually really close friends off the court, from when Hernangomez played on the Wolves during Ant’s rookie season in 2020-21. We even got this gold quote back then from Edwards stating ” Juancho can shoot the piss out the ball ” . Clearly, he believes in his bud. This movie likely only made their bond even stronger, not strong enough for Edwards to let Juancho block him !
