NBA commissioner Adam Silver was speaking with retired NFL player Pat McAfee on the PatMcAfeeShow on ESPN. Silver talked about the In-Season Tournament and the impact of basketball on the world.
During the interview, McAfee asked Silver if the impact of basketball has had an impact on foreign relations. To this Silver says that he gets drawn into such discussions even though they are not always in a positive way. He goes on to compare himself to Henry Kissinger and mentions:
"He was an exemplar. He was one of the great global diplomats."Adam Silver on Pat McAfee show
Silver goes on to talk about the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar and how the world was not bothered about what was happening in Qatar, rather just focusing on the game.
Adam Silver outlined that his job as the commissioner of the NBA is to improve the league. It seems Silver is solely focused on increasing the global reach of the NBA. What happens internally in a certain country is not his or the NBA’s concern. This comes a stark contrast to when the players use their status to affect change in the world.
Silver mentions to Pat McAfee that he considers his impact to be as important as Henry Kissinger’s was when considering foreign relations. Henry Kissinger was infamously known as a war crime expert. Doing whatever was necessary to bring good to the USA. Even if it meant the other countries were at the receiving end of his moves.

If Kissinger is one of the great global diplomats, according to him, then his criteria is just atrocious all around and maybe someone should start making moves to remove him from that chair.
Comparing yourself to Henry Kissinger? Very interesting choice there…

Most fans from the tweets have been left dumbfounded by Silver’s comparison. For most Americans it seems the name of Henry Kissinger being attached to anyone is a major red card. And for the commissioner of the NBA to do that was not received well.
